So a few weeks ago I got a request for a Luna X Reader one-shot (which like an idiot I forgot to do) and so here it is. It kind of mirrors Harry and Luna's encounter with the Thestrals in Order of the Phoenix, but it's kind of different. Here you're also in 4th year, like Luna in Order of the Phoenix, and I'm trying to make this house neutral again.

Might be short, just a warning.

A gentle early morning breeze softly kissed your face, lifting your hair up just slightly behind you as you sat on the steps outside the castle, tying your house scarf tightly around your neck, blinking tears away as they stung your eyes. The familiar empty sensation filled your chest, and you gasped for air like a fish out of the water, unable to absorb anymore the majestic beauty that surrounded you, from the fiery shades of the sunrise to the tall pine trees that graced the skyline, to even the owls that swooped in through the air. It was a feeling you got all the time, which would never cease no matter how many times you closed your eyes, telling yourself it was nothing but a nightmare--yes, your mind was forever locked on the day you have lost Cedric forever.

Cedric was one of your best friends, despite the age difference; your father and his were very good friends, having worked together in the Ministry of Magic, so it was natural for you and Cedric to get along like brother and sister too. You have always supported him in everything he did; to you, he was your role model, your anchor whenever you needed him; a beacon of hope whenever anything grew too dim for you to comprehend, for your to hope. He had always been there for you, and yet that night as you watched Harry Potter bring his body back after the last task of the Triwizard Tournament--

No. You tried to stop thinking about it, but no matter how hard you tried you just couldn't. It was like a scar forever seared in your brain.

"Hello."

A sudden dreamy voice cut through your thoughts, and you jumped, turning around to see a young Ravenclaw student with pale blonde hair stand over you, her Butterbeer cork necklace and radish earrings decked on her. Of course, you'd recognize her anywhere--it was Luna Lovegood from Ravenclaw, the girl who everyone thought was quite, should you be so kind to say, out of mind.

"Oh. Hello, uh, Luna," you hastily greeted her. "What are you doing?"

"Heading out to the forest," she simply said. "And you?"

You sighed exasperatedly, glancing out to the trees beyond your sight. "Uh...just...reflecting." You lowered your head and brought your knees into you as you felt tears sting behind your eyes. "It's just hard after missing Cedric."

Of course, by this point everyone has heard of the loss of the Hufflepuff student. Many people, however, have disbelieved Harry Potter's story of how Voldemort had arisen, however. Could Voldemort--or rather, in nicer terms, He Who Must Not Be Named--really have come back?

Luna just softened as she sat beside you. "People do come and go a lot of the time. But just because someone is lost doesn't mean they're gone forever. My mom used to say that things we lose always come back to us in the end." She put a comforting hand on your shoulder. "Trust me. Things will get better. It just takes time."

Occasionally, getting advice from a girl whose doubt you trusted--especially after hearing so many stories about her--was probably the most bizarre occurrence that could happen in a day. But something about her serenity and sincerity in her words made you believe her. People have been offering you condolences, which you had to admit got frustrating, so having this kind of reaction from Luna was actually nice for a change.

So you smiled. "Thanks, Luna."

Luna smiled back, pleased that her plan worked. "You're welcome...?"

"(Y/N)," you introduced yourself.

"(Y/N)." Luna nodded thoughtfully. "I like that name." She stood up and dusted herself off. "I was actually just heading to see the Thestrals in the Forbidden Forest. Would you care to join me?"

You nodded instantly in response, dusting yourself off as well. "Sure."

The two of you then went off into the forest, your spirits lifted just slightly. Perhaps Luna's talk didn't do too much to help so far, but it was a small start.

Things would only get better.

And you believed her every word.

Yeah okay so this is very short, I do apologize. I've been at a block with this but I still do hope it's saisfactory somewhat.

Anyway.

Please do read my last AN as well, it's super important. :)

Hope you are all having a great evening!
