Finally back onto the original one-shots for now. This takes place during Philosopher/Sorcerer's Stone. No really though, how do you call the first film of Harry Potter anyway?

Guide:

(Y/N): Your Name

"It's LeviOsa, not LevioSAR!" you heard your best friend Ron finally complain as you, he, and Harry emerged from Charms class, having just learned the Levitation spell. "It's annoying, really! No wonder she hasn't made any friends!" he continued to rant.

You only nodded as you and Harry heard him out. In Charms class today, all you did was partner up, according to Professor Flitwick; you were paired with Dean Thomas, who wasn't too bad to get to know and even managed to perform the charm with you on a feather near the end of the class; Harry was paired with Seamus Finnigan, who accidentally set his own feather on fire, which Harry had to put out with his hat; and Ron was paired with Hermione. At first glance, you had to agree with him. Hermione definitely seemed like a smart know-it-all and stuff, and you didn't really have much of a liking for her either since the first day of classes. She was the first to be able to perform the charm, which under different circumstances would have been jaw-dropping, but instead you felt the resistance to roll your eyes.

"I know," you agreed quietly. "She can be quite a pain sometimes."

Just as the words left your mouth, Hermione shoved past the three of you, pushing in between Harry and Ron as she stormed away, her head bowed.

"I think she heard the both of you," Harry murmured to you and Ron.

"Who cares?" Ron asked as the three of you stepped into the castle. "Honestly, (Y/N) has a point. Why bother with her in the first place anyway? She's mental. She's always been since the first day!"

You bit your lip in guilt as you walked with them to your dormitory. Sure, Hermione can be a bit of a pain. You were right. But you could tell that she's just like other students too, in a sense. She wanted a place to belong, she wanted to find some friends to talk with, and not just about school and spells, but other things too. In a way, she wanted to open up and be friends with someone. But who? Ron was right. Everyone was too scared to approach her.

Dropping your bag onto the floor beside your bed, you quickly fixed your hair and headed off to dinner with Harry and Ron the moment they were out of their dormitory. Upon entering the Great Hall, your eyes widened, and you mentally slapped yourself for having forgotten that it was Halloween tonight. Thunder boomed and lightning flashed from the enchanted ceiling above, and Jack-o-lanterns floated in midair beside the candles. A wane smile eventually curved on your lips as your levitation lesson returned to mind before you sat down at the Gryffindor table with Harry, Ron, and Ron's brothers--Fred and George, third-year students and a pair of twins, and Percy, a fifth-year Gryffindor prefect.

"Wow. This place is decorated nicely," you managed to comment, sliding in the bench beside Harry.

"Oh yeah, for sure!" Fred agreed. "It's been spookier and spookier with every passing year!"

George nodded. "I can't wait to see what the Hogwarts ghosts have been planning this year."

This seemed to catch your attention, and you stopped mid-chew in your mashed potatoes. "The ghosts actually come by during Halloween?" you asked, covering your mouth with your hand lightly.

"Yeah. It's loads of fun. It gives you the best scares," Fred responded, grinning.

"Now now, you two, just eat up," Percy scolded them before he returned to his own meal. You shared a shifty look with Harry and Ron before you dug into your own meal as well. In fact, it was pretty quiet until you heard something that made your ears perk up.
