The next day started off with Jacob trying to sneak up on me at any chance he got. Apparently, this was training. I begged to differ.
"Jacob, get out of the doorway. I'm getting dressed." I threw my night clothes at him. He squealed and scuttled away.
Luckily, behind the screen, he hadn't seen me. Jacob, however, had decided to change on his bed. Out in the open... Not a pretty sight at dawn.
I heard Evie scolding her younger brother as I shoved on my boots. I then picked up my night clothes and bundled them under my pillow to wear the next night. Henry had given me sheets and a pillow for me to dress up one of the sofas. It wasn't the most comfortable place, but I also wasn't taking his offer of taking his bed.
I left the bedroom and Evie went in to change. Jacob glanced at me.
"Stop." He groaned.
"Damn you. When is she getting her robes, Greenie?"
"The seamstress opposite is making them. She said that she knows just the thing. She will deliver them herself." Evie then emerged, still tying her scarf on her neck. "We have a lot of work to do."
"That urchin yesterday asked us to save some children from a factory. I could do that."
"Yes, Clara often tries to have the children liberated. Alright, Jacob, you can do that." Henry looked down at his desk again. "In fact, Carina," I looked up. "I want you to go with him. You should be a good influence. Allow me to provide you with more weapons." He bent over again, producing a cane from the ground. "The sword cane. The handle comes out to reveal a knife, and at the press of a button..." He pushed a button and a knife shot out at the bottom of the cane. "Impressive, no?"
"Very." I took it from him, sheathing the bottom blade. "Thank you."
"Have you figured out how to use the hidden blade yet?" I flicked my wrist.
"Indeed I have." He nodded.
"Very well. You both wait there and I will discuss Evie's plans with her." Jacob lead me to a pair of wooden seats. We sat, Jacob fiddling with his blade and me playing with the laces on my boots.
"So, Miss Faraday, how long were you training for?"
"Years. I don't know how many, but I was very young. I trained up until I was twelve, when my mother passed away. My brother and I would still practice, but he then passed three years later. Then, I gave up practicing."
"Your skills are still rather good. Hiding in plain sight is certainly something you are good at." He raised his eyebrows. "You're sure you haven't been practicing?" I nodded. "Well, we could always practice after our work." He gave a crooked grin.
"Thank you, that would be helpful." The bell above the door rang quickly. The orange-haired seamstress brushed inside with a small bag in her arms.
"I have those clothes you ordered, Henry." She dropped the bag on the desk. "Where is she?" She glanced around and I gave a little wave. "Ah, my dear!" She took the clothes out of the bag, the same light blue as my dress adorning the robes. "I thought the blue complimented your eyes very well, so I used it again here." Her lips pulled into a large smile. I took them from her with a nod.
"Thank you. I will go and change now."
Once changed, I entered the room again. I wore a coat very similar to Evie's. It was made from thick leather on the inside and the seamstress had sewn the same blue fabric from my dress around the outside. I still wore my black, leather trousers and had been given a new blouse by Evie which was black. I tied a belt around my waist to slip my sword cane into. The seamstress clapped as I got closer.
