Our mission was complete. We had defeated Crawford Starrick. We now had no more work to do. Jacob had hidden the Shroud back where it needed to be and Henry and Evie shared a kiss in the tomb. As we stepped back out into the early morning, Jacob kept a hand tightly pressed on my waist, our sides gently moulded together.

Evie and Henry walked hand-in-hand back to the train station. Freddy would be waiting there for us, apparently, to give us news from the Queen. True to his word, there he was, holding onto his hat with a great smile.

"You are safe. All of you." I rushed over and squeezed him in a hug. "Ahem. Yes..." He rubbed the back of his neck when I let go of him to stand beside Jacob once more. "The Queen asks for your company later this afternoon. One, sharp. She has something she would like to discuss with you all." His eyes lingered on Jacob and he grinned again. "Well, I shall see you then. I have been tasked with driving Her Majesty's carriage." He dashed away with a spring in his step and skipped slightly as he left the station.

"Now, to wait for the train and have a rest." Jacob suggested. His hand fell around my shoulders. "You were wonderful tonight." I blushed.

"And you were as well. I am still disappointed that we didn't get to dance since we were so busy. Plus, that beautiful gown... It was lovely." He chuckled gruffly.

"It is quite alright, my dear. We will get you another." He softly pecked my lips then removed his hat from his head to scratch at the hair underneath. I took the hat from him and put it on myself. "Beautiful." I giggled.

A loud, hooting noise came from just down the tracks and we could see the train coming towards us. Smoke plumed from its chimney. I readied myself to jump on as soon as it started to chug past. The door to the main carriage was opened quickly so I took my chance to jump. I landed on the carpeted floor with a gentle thud, and another clunk came from behind me. Jacob had made his way in. Evie and Henry, however, were nowhere to be seen. Jacob poked his head out of the door.

"Henry! Evie!"

"We are going to the curio shop. See you tomorrow." They waved as they left. I shuddered slightly, overcome by the cold all of a sudden.

"Either they wanted us to have time alone, or they wanted time alone. I don't know which is worse." I smiled and rested my hands on Jacob's shoulders.

"Perhaps we could have that dance now." We got into a position which we could begin dancing from.

"To what music?" I slipped my eyes shut and started to hum a slow tune. The one I hummed was similar to one of the songs being played at the ball that night.

We twirled around the train carriage, me crudely humming and Jacob focusing so furiously on not stepping on my toes that he didn't lift his eyes from the floor. I pushed his chin up with my forefinger and latched my eyes onto his. He didn't look at the floor again during the dance.

Captivated by his sparkling brown eyes, I wasn't able to look away. They even distracted me so much that I hadn't realised that I had stopped humming and was simply stood completely still in the silence. Well, silent except for my own breathing and the sounds coming from the train and whatever busy place we were passing. Jacob slowly leaned down to my height and pressed his lips to mine. To pull myself closer, I placed a hand on the back of his neck and squished my chest against his. He stuck his hand on my lower back, pulling me closer again.
