Inmates with weapons littered the foyer of the asylum. The beautiful interior was ruined by the sight of these men. They were terrorising doctors and nurses, slaughtering them where they stood. Blood stained the dark carpets, leaving soggy patches all over. Some of the inmates were walking in the blood. None of them cared, simply dragging red footprints over the rest of the floor.

We wanted desperately to leave these men so that they may be cared for later on, but they wouldn't stop coming towards us with knives and our fear tools didn't affect them in any way. Killing these men made me feel incredibly guilty. It wasn't their fault, they were mentally unstable and had been ordered to do so by Jack.

Drawing closer to the basement was a great achievement. Excitement and fear both rushed through me. I didn't want to see the state that Jacob and Eli were in and I didn't want to face Jack. Evie agreed to fight him alone so that I might tend to my son and my husband. We had brought some water with us in order to hydrate them.

We trailed quickly down the steps. Immediately, I spotted a cell directly in front of us. A window made from six, thick, iron bars sat at the top of the door, the rest of it made from heavy stone. I rushed to it and peered through the bars.

"Jacob, Eli? Are you there?" Evie grabbed a lantern from the ground, left there by an attendant to the cells. She shone it through the bars. Two outlines could be seen slightly. I grinned. "I think it is them."

"Take the lantern and the keys." She tossed me a ring of keys from the same place as the lantern. "And the extra tankard of water." She handed me that as well. "I will handle Jack. I will call you if I need you."

I turned the key in the lock and stepped inside. My boots thudded gently on the stones. I shuffled through hay and kicked a burlap sheet aside. Then, casted the lantern over the two figures once I was close enough to be able to see them clearly. My hands were shaking. One man was hunched over, breathing heavily with his eyes shut. The other was a child, huddling in the corner with a blanket around him. He was crying softly, blocking the world out by his hands being smacked over his ears.

"Eli?" I called quietly, shaking more violently with tears threatening to spill over. He stopped crying and gasped loudly.

"Mamma?" I laughed happily.

"I'm here, baby boy." I ran over to him and fell to my knees beside him. He took his hands from his ears and looped his arms tightly around my neck. "Oh, sweetheart, are you alright?" I sobbed into his neck. He didn't reply, too overwhelmed by emotions to do so. "I've been so worried. I don't know what I would have done if something happened to you." He gripped tighter to me. "I'm never letting you out of my sight again. I love you so much, Elias. I'm sorry it took so long to find you. Jack didn't make it very easy, and your aunt and I were trying as hard as we possibly could."

"I love you too, mamma." Eli began to move away. "Daddy fell asleep a while ago. He hasn't woken up for a few hours."

"I will see to him now." I wiped my eyes on my sleeve, then began to examine the boy.
