For the seventh time, I woke up in the bed. Everything felt cold and lifeless. I shifted so that I faced the wall instead of Jacob's bed. The wallpaper was peeling. I picked at it carefully with my short nails. Mud was buried beneath them from the day before. I had spent it by planting flowers in the back garden of the curio shop as a type of memorial to Jonah.

A groan came from the bed beside me. Jacob was thrashing about. I chose to see how his nightmare would play out instead of interrupting him. Soon enough, he inhaled sharply and sat up.

"Damn..." He whispered.

"What is it?" I spoke back, my back still to him. He sighed.

"You had a nightmare?"

"Yes. As did you?"

"Yes." Jacob then placed something down on the side table.

"What about?"

"The same thing yours was about, no doubt." I sat up on the bed and crossed my legs. "The images won't leave me." His hand went to his face. "No matter how hard I try to forget how he looked when we..." He trailed off. "You probably don't want to hear this. You are suffering far worse than I am." He looked over to me. Luckily, he couldn't see the obvious sunken-in look of my eyes or the black bags beneath them. "These past two weeks. How have they been for you?"

"I won't lie, they have been difficult. However, we have both suffered. No matter how badly we have suffered, we still have to deal with it." I held a hand out to the side. He took it gently. "I will help you, just as you have been helping me." I smiled. "And I should like to go back to work later. Did you collect my new robes?" It was very clearly early in the morning when I had woken up.

"Yes. They are hanging in Evie's carriage, since she has more space. And you are certain you are ready to work?" I nodded.

"If I can't do it now, then when will I be able to? I am alright to work. Don't worry."

~~

It was difficult to get into my robes and to arm myself with all of my weapons after so long. Evie invited me to visit a mansion with her and Henry since Jacob hadn't any work he needed to do in particular. Besides, I had always liked looking at old artefacts, which I hoped Edward Kenway had kept a lot of. I could keep accounts on everything I saw. It was a hobby I had during my childhood. I would write descriptions on my father's pieces of equipment.

"Carina?" Evie knocked on the door to my carriage. She then opened it while I was attempting to tie the belt behind my back. "Oh. Let me get that for you." She rushed around to the back of me. "Do you think we will get a lot done today?"

"Yes. Hopefully. It will be nice to take my mind off of things."

"Mr Kenway was a very interesting man. There will be a lot to learn about him in the house, most likely." She finished off the knot behind my back. "Now then. Mr Green should be ready for us. Then, we can get on a carriage and make our way there." I grinned.

"Shall we?" I held an arm out towards the door. Evie left first and I quickly followed suit. Henry greeted us with a little wave.

"Ladies. Are you ready to leave?" Henry asked politely.

"As ready as we will ever be." Evie chimed happily.

"Oh, and Carina?" Jacob called from the opposite end of the room. "If you find yourself losing my sister and Greenie, don't go looking for them. Your innocent eyes need not see what they might get up to."
