(A/N) I'm stupid late, but thanks for 2k reads! :D

The bright sun streamed into my eyes. I sat up, leaning against the head board of the bed and adjusted my nightgown sleeves. Jacob and I had decided to sleep in Henry's shop that night to avoid having to do any work. Plus, we had gotten so drunk from the large crate of beers that we knew we would get a bollocking for it from Evie.

There was a loud knock at the door and, from the empty space beside me, I figured that Jacob was out in the lounge so he could answer the door. I stretched out when I heard the door open. I let out a slightly creaky noise as Jacob filed into the room.

"I thought you were going to leave without giving me a kiss." I propped myself up on one elbow.

"Someone is here to see you. He won't say who he is."

"Tell him to go away. My head hurts and I feel sick. I bet a kiss would help." I puckered my lips at him. He chuckled lowly and approached me. I held the sides of his face when his lips connected to mine, keeping him in the kiss for longer.

"The bloke says he's got something to do with your father." I sighed.

"Fine. Tell him I'm getting dressed." My loud yawn echoed around the small, under furnished room. I looked at my pile of clothing. "And can you pass me my clothes?"

"Anything else, mistress? Fluff your pillow? Hot tea?"

"Ooh, yes please." He chuckled. Jacob then stalked over to the other side of the room, scooping up the bundle of fabrics. He dropped it into my lap. "Thank you." He swiftly pecked my cheek.

"I will meet you out in the lounge room."

Once I had on my outfit, I took to the task of tackling my face and hair. Being in France for a month, I managed to pick up tips on how to properly apply powder. I used the powder to hide the red rings around my eyes, the black bags beneath them and the general tiredness of my skin. Afterwards, there was a certain glow to my cheeks which hadn't been there before.

I quickly combed through my hair and pinned back the front right section with a small clip. Short curls poked out at the bottoms of my ears from behind and I smiled at that. Pleased with my appearance, I emerged from the bedroom and made my way into the lounge.

Jacob sat beside a tall, slim, lanky man. He wore a light grey suit and thin framed, rounded spectacles. He adjusted them when they slid down the bridge of his nose before getting back to writing in his thick notebook. His brown hair had grey hairs scattered evenly throughout. He had few wrinkles on his face except for a few long lines on his forehead. He looked up at the sound of me entering the room and gave a small smile. His dark green eyes hadn't changed over the years. I hadn't seen him since my brother passed away.

"You, Miss Faraday, are a difficult woman to track down." He chuckled deeply. He stood from his chair and I dashed over to give him a hug. "I tried everything - post offices, journals, friends. Nothing."
