Jacob shoved my feet from the desk, sweeping a pile of papers onto the floor with my boots. It startled me awake, and I coughed quietly.

"I was just resting my eyes." I rubbed my lips and chin which were wet with spit from my nap.

"It is past dawn, Carina. You have been asleep all night." I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. "Were you up quite late, then?" He sifted through a small stack of books.

"Yes and no. I wouldn't class it as late, but you most likely would."

"What time?"

"Three this morning." He chuckled, shaking his head. "There was a lot of work to do! You refused to do it, and I would rather Henry wasn't angry with me. And I dread to think what Evie would do to me if I didn't finish our work. We have had our information for a month, and we haven't done anything about it yet. I chose to write it in a longer, more clear manner in my notebook." I waved the book at him as I pushed my cap up my head. "Well? Are you impressed?" He flipped open the book, eyeing the six pages of work I had completed.

"So many pages in just a few hours? All of this just about the Soothing Syrup?"

"Yes. I will be handing it in to Henry later on today."

"What are you handing in to me?" Henry emerged, still in his night clothes with his hair stuck up on end. "Is it work, Carina?"

"Yes, actually." I tore the pages from the book and gave them to him. "It is mine and Jacob's information on Soothing Syrup." He read through it slowly. "Is it alright?" I stood, rubbing the back of my neck. "If not, I can easily write it up again. Give me three or four hours and I should have it perfect."

"No, no, Miss Faraday. This is brilliant - perfect, in fact. Thank you. This will definitely be of great use to us all." He tucked the sheets into our research book. I smiled.

"Now, Mr Green, I wanted to ask--"

"We have not seen anyone at the train station. I am very sorry, Carina. We can carry on checking, but I am not entirely sure if it will be worth it. It seems as if Jonah is not coming." I sighed sadly.

"Today will be the last day we check. I won't wait for him anymore. It is most likely my fault that he doesn't want to see me." I got up from my seat. "I should comb my hair."

"We are almost at the station." Henry chimed.

"Jonah won't be there anyway. If by some chance he is, bring him in." I yawned and entered the other carriage. I grabbed the comb from the side and pulled it through my hair.

The train stopped, and I sighed harshly. There was practically no way Jonah would suddenly show up after so long. I took my time sorting myself out before the train began moving again. With a smile, I re-entered the carriage where Jacob and Henry had gathered.

"I'm guessing he didn't show up again?" I asked, peeling the door open. There, on one of the seats, stood a man with striking blue eyes and deep brown hair. He had a slight bit of stubble on his face and wore a smile. He stood, wrung his hat in his hands, then waved shyly.

"Good morning, Carina." I grinned.

"Jonah." Tears sprang into my eyes. "You came."

"Of course I did. I had to work extra hard in my father's shop to earn enough money for a ticket. I didn't want to accept your money, on account of your situation." I shook my head and ran to him, hugging him tightly.

"I don't care. You're here, and that's all that matters." Jacob patted my shoulder. I faced him, not able to stop smiling.

"Should Greenie and I leave you two alone?"
