In the morning, I felt well rested and ready to begin the day. I rushed out of bed to get something for breakfast. A fresh pot of tea sat on the counter, Henry nursing a small, steaming cup just beside it. He had perched himself up on one of the other surfaces. He waved slightly when he saw me.
"Good morning, Miss Faraday."
"Morning, Henry." My eyes caught on the book laying open beside him. "Busy day ahead?" I asked. He loudly swallowed the mouthful of tea in his mouth and nodded.
"Mainly research, but a lot of it. I was looking into the history of the Templars." He swung off of the counter he sat on and held the book out to me. "I found something which doesn't quite seem to fit a pattern. See, in the other books, it describes their methods as being humane and calm. However, this book gives details into the horror and terrorisation caused by the Templar Order centuries ago."
"It seems like they must have had the books altered. Though, it looks like they must have missed a few which still tell the truth."
"See, that is what I thought. But, I noticed that each of these books are published by the same publisher. How would something like that slip through undetected?" I poured tea for myself.
"Someone who seemed to be working for them must have rebelled against them. Perhaps they weren't being treated how they wanted, so they allowed a few copies to be printed with the truth. It is a subtle way to get revenge. No one would find out until the book was read." I sipped from the cup. "Besides, the best way to get revenge is to do it on a smaller scale where only a few people will find out. That way, it is harder for the people you are getting revenge on to find out."
"Quite so. Nicely put, Miss Faraday." The door to one of the other carriages opened. Jacob dragged himself out, his nose buried deeply into a handkerchief. He sneezed loudly, followed by an almighty cough.
"Are you alright?" I placed a hand on his shoulder as he sat down at the sofa. His bare skin was hot to the touch. "You have a high temperature." I soaked a cloth in the water tank and handed it to Jacob to place on his head. "I think you have a cold. I suggest you stay in bed today, just to get rid of the worst symptoms."
"No, no. We have to see Roth."
"I can see him myself. You need to get better." I smiled. "Now, come on. To bed with you. I will bring you some water and breakfast in a little while." He stalked back to his bed, his feet dragging against the floor. I took two oranges from the fruit bowl. Henry handed me a full glass of water which he had gotten while I was grabbing the fruit. I thanked him and went to give Jacob the water and fruit. "Here you go, dear." I set everything down on the bedside table. "I will sort everything out with Mr Roth today and report back to you when everything is over." I pressed a small kiss to his forehead and began to grab my weapons. I decided that I wouldn't need many, so stuck with just my throwing knives, hidden blade and cane sword.
Henry was still buried in his book when stumbled back out into the main carriage. He gave me a smile.
"Off out?" I nodded.
"To see Mr Roth. He said he would have more work for us, and I would rather have it done sooner than later."
