At first there was blinding light. Laehal had to cover his face with one arm, as the other was holding Teriaj's. Then there was sudden darkness, and a fuzzy feeling, followed by the feeling of being pulled apart and put back together again. There was a blinding light again, and then there was solid ground beneath them.
"Whoa," Laehal said as he wobbled from side to side. "That was the worst feeling ever."
Teriaj shrugged. "You get used to it after a while."
"How many times did you have to do it to get used to it?"
"I can't even remember, it was so many."
Mother Nature giggled. The sound of it was much clearer and louder than in the forest. Laehal looked around to see they were in a white walled, white floored building.
Teriaj was terrified the first time he travelled like that. Nearly wet himself, Mother Nature giggled. It took him quite a few tries to get used to it, but he managed, didn't you Teriaj? She said the last part like a proud mother.
Teriaj huffed.
"Where are we?" asked Laehal.
"We're in the Fate's Palace. It's a temple dedicated to the Web of Fate and the Spinners, Writers, Weavers, Watchers, and Cutters, who are also known as the Guild."
Laehal looked around. The temple was very empty, save for two doorways on either side of the big room.
"Where do those doorways lead?" asked Laehal, pointing his hands towards both doors.
"The one on the right," Teriaj gestured to the doorway on the right of the room, "is filled with statues, murals, and sacred drawings of the Guild. That's where you'll learn about the previous people who had those jobs and how the jobs work, so you can fulfil your destiny to be a Spinner. The one on the left," Teriaj gestured to the doorway on the left of the room, "is a huge room with murals on the walls about the origin of the Web of Fate. There you will learn how important it is for you to become a Spinner and to stay away from Shayel."
"Where will we go first?"
"What do you think, Laehal? Use your senses. Spinners must learn to follow their heart and not their mind. Close your eyes, feel into your soul. Which way does your body want to go?"
Laehal gave Teriaj a weird look, then closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"The room on the right." Laehal figured it would be better to learn his job first, then the origin of the Web. Though he hadn't searched his heart for the answer. He had just mulled it over in his head.
Laehal, Mother Nature tsked. You mustn't think about it. Try again.
Laehal opened his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest. "If you wanted me to learn about the origin of the Web first, why'd you bother with all this choosing nonsense?"
It wasn't that, Laehal. It was the fact that you thought about it instead of going with your instinct. To be a Spinner you can't rely on your human thought process, or you could make a mistake with a soul and mess up the Watchers, Writers, and Weavers. You must learn to rely on you heart and your instincts.
Laehal huffed. "Fine. I'll try my best."
Teriaj turned to face him." She's right, Laehal. To fulfil your destiny, you must trust your gut. Now let's go to the Origin Room."
Teriaj began walking toward the doorway on the left. Laehal followed, and soon they were both crossing the threshold into the Origin Room.
