:O GUYS!!!

Chapter 35!!!!!

OMG!!!!

I can't believe I made it this far :O

And thanks all of you for sticking with me :) [Though there are very few as of this moment...which makes me feel sort of down, but hey, I'm sorry for some of the previous chapters; most of them have nothing to do with this storyline, because before I didn't really know where I was going with this. So once I finish Whispers I will be going back and eliminating any chapters that aren't needed]

Anywhoop.

Last chapter we looked into the life of Sever Nirue, who has all his friends working hard for him. I wonder, will the scandal work?

This time, we're back with Laehal and Teriaj in the Fate's Palace.

I wonder...where has Mother Nature gone? We haven't heard from her in a while. Hmmm...

XX

A thought suddenly popped into Teriaj's head. Even if Laehal wants to take his place in the Guild and become a Spinner, he still has to learn how.

But it was getting late--the only light in the temple was coming from the skylight, where the moon shone bright white on the tiled floor--and Laehal was starting to nod off on his feet.

"Erm, perhaps we should rest for tonight, and tomorrow we'll talk about the problems we have encountered."

Yawning, Laehal replied, "Yeah, that's a good idea. But where will we sleep? And," Laehal paused at the sudden realization of Mother Nature's absence, "where's Mother Nature?"

"There must be something happening up at the Web of Fate. But not to worry, she'll be back soon enough. In the meantime, while we're waiting, we will have to sleep on the floor. It probably won't be the most comfortable sleep, but we'll manage."

Laehal nodded in agreement. "Okay." Yawning again, he curled up on the floor of the Origin Room and closed his eyes.

"Ah, but...," Teriaj interjected, "erm, it would be disrespectful to sleep in the Origin Room, so we should sleep in the hall instead." But Teriaj's objections went unheard, as Laehal was already asleep.

Teriaj shook his head with a small smile on his face, then picked up the 14-year-old boy in his arms and carried him out of the room, placing him on one of the benches.

Teriaj himself was not tired. Maybe it was because even though he was in human form, he was still descended from a Goddess, or maybe it was just because he was a Watcher--a guardian angel of sorts. Whatever the reason, he had found that he was never truly tired, no matter what he went through to protect Laehal.

Teriaj stood in the Origin Room, looking up out the skylight, watching the thin clouds slowly roll over the moon. It wasn't full yet, but it was nonetheless bright, as the air was clear.

He wondered where Mother Nature had gone. He had told Laehal that she was dealing with things at the Web, but he didn't fully believe it himself. There was no such thing as time in the Cavern of the Web, and so Mother Nature could be everywhere all at once, including the Cavern. If she had anything to say, she would have said it.

Teriaj was a bit worried that Mother Nature hadn't said anything. Perhaps she was satisfied with what Teriaj had said to quench Laehal's questions? Possibly Teriaj had said everything he needed. If he hadn't, then Mother Nature surely would have butted in and said what he missed.

"Mother Nature, where are you?" Teriaj whispered to the moon.

I am always here, Teriaj. Do not fret, my child. I was never gone. Indeed, I was satisfied with your answers, and in awe at your storytelling skills. Perhaps I should get you to explain it to all the heirs. But you must still prove yourself; you must teach Laehal how to become a Spinner.

Teriaj let out a sigh of relief. "I was worried. But, surely then you heard of our problems with how young he is?"

Yes. And I have the answers. Laehal has been chosen at the right time--everyone is chosen at a young age. It usually takes a while for them to decide which path they will take. It takes years to master their skills, also. Once they are ready to be taken to the Web, they usually have already had a child. You must remember, also, that there is no passing of time in the Cavern. If he came in one hundred years, it would still happen now, in the Cavern. Time does not reach the Web. Cast away your worries; you're doing fine.

But Laehal might change his mind. Be watchful, but also understanding. You cannot force him one way or another. You cannot force him to hate the one he called his mother for so many years, even though she was not. He cares for her. It must be a shock that the woman who raised him was a danger to something he has only just found out about. You knew all your life--he has just been thrust into this world, without his father or real mother to tell him beforehand. Be gentle with him, too. He is young.

I trust you to do the right thing. Though I know it is stressful that the woman whom Laehal trusted with his life is coming to take it. Please, help him. And don't give in to your own fears. I will help you, though my aid is limited. And lastly, believe in yourself. You will get nothing done if you do not believe that you can.

"I'll try Mother Nature, my very best. I am your servant, I live to serve you. And I will not let you down."
