Deeliah was walking at a brisk pace and would slightly cower at a loud voice. She heard someone following her, and sped up. Laehal ran to catch up with her.
"Deeliah, wait!" he called. She sighed and turned to face him.
"What?" she asked, a little bit of irritation in her voice.
This was the first time Laehal had actually gotten a good look at Deeliah. She was a short girl, about 5'3", and she had to strain her neck to look at Laehal's face. Her big green eyes were surrounded by naturally long eyelashes. Her big glasses suited her pale complexion just right, and her small lips were guarded by a natural blush. Deeliah had dark red hair, which was pulled up into a high ponytail, with her bangs slightly hanging over her eyes.
"Hello? Earth to Pony-Boy."
Laehal shook his head once and looked into her eyes. Deeliah looked back. It was as if she always looked at people's eyes, not just their face or their abnormal features.
"Uh-uhm, I wanted to talk to you."
Deeliah snorted. "Well you're doing a fine job. Now if you don't mind I have to get to class." She rolled her eyes at him, and he noticed her light sprinkle of freckles.
Why does Kyrel pick on her? Laehal wondered. She's beautiful. She's...nice.
"Deeliah, wait!"
Deeliah huffed and stopped in her tracks to give Laehal a 'What is it this time?' look. "What do you want?"
"How come you lied to Mr. F? Wasn't Kyrel the one to cause the fight?"
"Yes. It was Kyrel. Big whoop. He's always bullying me. But I can't see that stopping. There's nothing you, or I, can do."
"But why did you lie?"
"Laehal, sometimes people have to do things they wouldn't normally do, just so they can survive. Take it this way, if I hadn't lied, I would have gotten a lot more than a threatening." And Deeliah turned around and walked into the classroom.
"That doesn't mean you needed to lie...," Laehal mumbled to himself.
