Morgan

"You really don't have to talk; if you don't want to." She shook her head and put a finger up.

Come on, you've got this."

"M-my name is Morgan and I'm fr-om Maryland. Your name is Colin K-Kaepernick...we l-live in California." He smiled big at her.

"That's great. You're doing good. How did it feel?"

"St-ill sore, not as b-bad as be-fore though."

"Of course, it's not gonna be automatic but I'm glad you're getting there. How is your eye?"

He reached up and brushed his finger under her eye. She was met with the same flutter of her heart once again the moment his skin made contact with hers. Would she ever get use to that?

He was staring at her and only then did she realize that she didn't answer his question.

She gave a weak thumbs up which made her internally cringe at how corny it was. He gave her another smile before pulling away.

"And your ribs?"

"S-still hurt." He nodded in understanding.

She was done talking for the day but she still needed to ask a question. So, she hurried to grab her clipboard and write it down; showing it to him.

"Are you sad?"

"About?"

"That I dont remember you. Do I make you sad?" She watched carefully as he read it then slowly looked back to her.

"I don't think it's as simple as that." She pulled her legs up on the seat with her and waited. He took a deep breath before looking out the window next to them.

"I think I'm a little torn between being happy and sad. On one hand I have you back; you're right here in front of me alive and I couldn't be any happier about that. Then it's like starting over you know? We've been together four years and all of the memories, good and bad, are just...gone." she frowns.

Of course she wished she could remember but it's completely clear. She can't think back; can't necessarily think forward; she's just empty.

"I just feel bad because that's not the position I want to put you in. I don't want to pressure you or make you feel like you have to be a certain way. None of this is your fault. I love you with or without your memory."

"You're not worried that you're in love with the old me?"

"They're the same. Just because you can't remember, doesn't mean that I stopped loving you. You're still Morgan. I still love the weird facial expressions you make all day, I still love your smile, I still love your eyes...though the one green one brown thing is something to get use to, I still love how you crinkle your nose when you think something smells funny. You're still the love of my life; I don't think I would have waited by a bed in the hospital for two and half weeks if you weren't."

But what was she supposed to do? A week ago she woke up in the hospital and now she has a husband and two kids?

But she knew he wasn't lying because she could literally see herself in the little ones. A serious balance of her and Colin that she wouldn't have expected at all. Darlene was gorgeous and sweet and Knox was so handsome but so quiet. Part of her wondered why.

"You look deep in thought."

"Why is Knox so quiet?"

"He was there when you got hurt. He just stopped talking when he found out how bad it was. He feels bad he couldn't help. I think it's just going to take him some time to feel normal again."

She heard the door creak a little and she turned just in time to see Knox poke his head through. He walked in slowly before making his way over and moving into Colin's arms. He sort of hid his face in his neck as Colin kissed his head.

Though she didn't know exactly what Knox liked, she felt an overwhelming sense of protectiveness for him. Something set deep in her bones that could never be removed.

She bit her lip for a moment before resulting to just sort of scrambling out what she thought might make him feel better.

She moved a little closer to them and held the board up for Colin to read. Colin smiled but didn't say a word; she half expected for him to read it out loud seeing as Knox was only three and she didn't really know any three year olds that could read.

But Knox stares at the paper for a moment before turning his eyes to her and giving a small smile. Colin laughed at her shocked expression.

"We taught him to read. He knows what the paper says." He explains and she smirks at the little one.

"Wanna make a deal?" He nods slowly. "I'll talk if you talk. We can talk out loud for a little. I'd really like to hear your voice."

He frowns; looking up at her unsure.

"Don't b-be sca-red. It's...o-kay." She rasps out and his eyes widen.

He moves closer; sitting in her lap and cuddling into her a little. Part of her is panicking because she doesn't have much practice as of late with kids. But then there is a more dominant part that feels like this is where he belongs; close.

So she takes the good arm and wraps it around him; sort of burying her face into his wild curls.

"I was scared. I missed you." He whispers and she holds him a little tighter; ignoring the protest of her hurt ribs.

"But...m'here now."
