"Did you see anyone? Did they say anything?"
"Not really. I was sort of attacked from behind before they beat me up. Told me to come here to give you the envelope."
She stared at him; her stomach doing flips as her fingers brushed against the envelope in her hand. She didn't think she could stomach it. She had no idea what it would be.
"Here, let me get you something for that." She stood up, laying the envelope on the arm of the sofa. She moved to get the first aid kit and come back.
"Do you know what their car looked like...what they looked like? Anything?"
"They had on masks...I was knocked out and when I woke up I was down the street by the park. I walked here."
She grabs the envelope before sitting down again. Her fingers sort of toy with the edges for a moment before opening it. A black card with gold writing and lace.
"Again, we see there is nothing you can possess which I cannot take away."
Along with the card, there was a photograph.
A photograph of Knox.
His face was tear streaked and dirty; his hair all over the place and knotty. His eyes were bright but not in the healthy way; and his cheek was bruised. There was a piece of cloth tied around his mouth and he was tied to a chair. The bottom of the Polaroid read "ready or not."
"How do we know you didn't do it?" She spoke up and both of the men looked to her."What?" She looked up and stared at him.
"You expect me to believe that some strange man comes to our house and delivers me a note with my child's picture in it; and I won't question it?"
"So you think I did it? I was there when Knox was born..."
"I don't trust you. I need to know where my son is! Where is my son?!"
She moved to get in his face but she was pulled back. The man stared at her wide eyed; his body barely moving as she grabbed his shirt and was pulled away. She fought against the arms but they were too strong: and she was being pulled in a different direction.
"I just want my baby!"
"Calm down okay? Just calm down..."
"He knows something! He has to...he has to..." she finally whimpered; her body sort of giving up. She put her face in her hands and sobbed.
And she sobbed.
And she sobbed some more.

"No memory..."
And here I thought them getting married was one of the worst things that happened to me.
"None."
"Don't you guys think you should have told someone? Alerted everyone?"
"To be perfectly honest, no. This was between us."
"She has people out there that care about her and she doesn't remember them. It was beyond just you."
"You telling me how to take care of my wife now? Pretty rich coming from you."
