Colin
"He doesn't leave like this...he's not that kind of kid."
"We have the alarm system; how could someone have gotten in?" People were everywhere; searching the grounds.
The police told them that they couldn't file a missing persons report until he was gone for twenty four hours. They were losing their minds, and Colin hadn't sat still since she got home.
Darlene was wrapped up in her arms and she wouldn't let go of her. She was terrified.
When they looked in Knox's room there was no hint of how the person got in. The windows were closed, the door was cracked like it usually was, and everything looked neat.
"I can't believe the police won't let us file a missing persons report. Our son is out there by himself."
"Something isn't right..."
"He's gone Morgan, of course something isn't right." She ignored the snide comment; seeing as he was just as upset as her.
She got up; moving up the stairs with Darlene in her arms.
"Where are you going?"
"To look." She made it to the top before moving down the hall and to his room.
She stared around for a moment; another feeling blooming in her stomach. Colin came to her side and she handed him Darlene before moving in.
She moved the comforter on the bed and looked through all of his toys before she noticed that his closet was open.
Knox didn't like when his closet was open.
She crouched down to see some of his clothes were on the floor and his light up toy. He used that when he was scared.
"He hid before they took him. He knew they were coming..." she spoke up; moving into the closet.
She felt around the wall for a moment before her hand came into contact with something. She pulled it out and stared at the envelope in her hand. She slowly opened it; a small piece of paper inside.
"What...does it say?" She moved it to see a few lines scribbled on the thick piece.
"Son, are you happy?
I don't mean to pry.
But do you dream of heaven?
Have you ever wanted to die?"
"What the hell does that mean?" Something about it made her skin tingle. Like she knew what was going on but couldn't reach it in her mind.
Then it slowly came to her.
"I've seen this before..."
"You have?"
"Yeah. I think it was a book or something."
She sort of collapsed on the ground and stared at the paper.
"Why would they take him? He's just a baby."
***********
-The next day-
He still hadn't come back and they were finally able to file a report. An amber alert was issued and there once empty house was now filled with people. The family, the cops and whoever else seemed to file in.
Including the detective assigned to their case; Detective Club.
"Do these words mean anything to you? Anything special?"
"No...I know I've seen them before; I think in a book."
"Where there any strange events beforehand?" Colin glanced at her before back to the Detective.
"When I went to pick Colin up from the airport...someone took a picture of my back while I was eating. Then when I left I got another text that asked me where I was going."
"And how long ago was this?"
"About three days?"
"Alright I'll get a print out of the record...now is there a safe place he might know? Somewhere he could go if he gets lost?"
"No...the only place I guess that might be considered is the park but we checked there already."
"Sure. Listen Mr. And Mrs. Kaepernick I have to be blunt with you okay? After about seventy two hours these cases get harder. That's when we start looking toward the option of homicide and not abduction..." She glanced to Colin who started to clench his fist.
"We're going to find him. I know we will."
"Of course. I'm going to go talk to some of my men...see if we can set up a perimeter." He moved away.
She stood; walking over to grab his fist in her hand.
"We're going to find him, okay? I know we are."
"That's our son...how can we just sit back and wait?" He asked quietly.
"Because we're his parents and we have faith it will be okay again. We're going to do everything we can to get him back."
