Morgan

She laid awake in the early darkness.

Like she was tired but her bones wouldn't settle enough for her to be able to sleep. Colin was asleep by her side, an arm thrown over her hip.

She reached up to run her finger over his eye; feeling his eyelashes brush over her fingertip. He moved in his sleep; his hand going up to rub the side of her stomach.

"Why are you up?"

"I had a dream..."

"People do that when they sleep." She rolled her eyes.

"Why are you up?" She asked accusingly; wondering why he was talking with his eyes closed. Had he been awake the entire time? Faking her out just for the hell of it.

"I felt that you were awake."

"You felt that I was awake? You felt me mess with your eye?"

"No. I could sense you were up. Side effects of sleeping in a bed with you for almost five years. I know when you're awake...and I know when you're sleeping."

"Like santa?" He breathed out a laugh before quieting down.

"What's the matter?"

"I...know about the affair you had." She spoke up and she could almost feel him freeze.

"You read it? In a journal?"

"No. My dream was a memory. I remember it all, and I could feel what I felt when it all happened."

"Is that all that you remember?"

"No. I remember the day we got married. Our vows." His eyes were open now;watching her.

"When did you remember that?"

"While I was with Liam...sometimes I would dream memories. Sometimes they were good and sometimes they were bad. They keep me up at night because they're painful and upsetting."

"Painful and upsetting?"

"They hurt...and knowing that I might just live with holes like this is upsetting."

"You've been doing it this long."

"But I'm not okay with half knowing you."

"Ask me then."

"Ask you what?"

"Anything. You want to know me, so ask." He sat up a bit, leaning up on his elbow. She thought for a moment.

"Did it freak you out when I was pregnant with Knox?"

"No. Not at all. I was excited because we had been trying for a while. Having another baby felt like the right thing. Before him, you had a miscarriage and it was hard for us to cope. Then everything changed for the better."

"Did you ever think about kids before us?"

"Kinda. It wasn't something that I always thought of before us. I loved other people but now that I think about it; I didn't love them enough to think about kids. The future was something sort of unclear. Then I met you and it was sort of easy for me to fall into thoughts of a future. It was easy for me to be whatever you wanted me to be, whether it was your boyfriend, your friend of your husband. Being the father of our children just felt like a natural milestone."

They found themselves fully awake for the next few hours; filling the time with one of the longest conversations she thought she'd ever had. Hearing him talk about everything made her feel like he was opening up. She was sure it wasn't the first time they had done this, but it was nice.

The sun rose slowly; pushing through the small cracks of the curtains in the room, and thought hey knew it would be he'll because they had to be up soon with the kids; they were content.

Colin

"You've been holding that sonogram picture like it might disappear into thin air."

"Because I don't exactly believe what is happening."

"You can get use to pregnancy, you're handling it-"

"No not about the pregnancy. Look," she showed it to him but he couldn't understand what she couldn't believe. The baby looked healthy, the right size and everything. Just right. "Do you see?"

"What's wrong? The baby looks fine."

"Babies." She spoke up and he stared at her, confused.

"Babies? That doesn't make any sense."

"I'm pregnant with twins, Colin."

"You're what? No, this picture only shows one baby."

"Two. See that lump right there behind this baby? And the one right there by the foot? That's the second one. She was hiding behind her brother."

"She?" She smiles.

"Yeah. One boy and one girl. Darlene and Knox are going to have more company than they asked for."

"I don't think anyone could have been ready for that kind of company." He laughed and hugged her.

"This is great baby. But, we're gonna need way more baby stuff than we thought we would." He rubbed her stomach and kissed her head.

Later on that day they all ended up outside on the front porch.

He was sort of playing chase with Darlene in the yard; Morgan and Knox on the porch. Doing what? He had no idea.

The sound of a car pulling up made him look up from his place in the grass. A police cruiser stopped at the curb and the engine cut before someone stepped out. Only after they came around the car did he notice Detective Club.

He kisses Darlene's cheek before getting up.

"Go up on the porch with Knox, baby girl." He watches as she ran back, just as Morgan was walking up. They all met at the end of the long walk way.

"There's people you are happy to see again when you haven't in a while. You aren't one of them Detective. No offense."

"None taken. I do have some news though."

"What is it?"

"As you know, the trial starts soon. But we have a small bump in the road. You see, he's willing to give up all the details and be tried with a guilty plea to all charges. On one condition..."

"What condition is that?"

"That you go visit him."
