I walked out the room lightly tracing the small plaster on my wrist from where to doctor drew blood and headed to the waiting room to find Jason. He sat in the plastic seats in the waiting room looking down at his phone, I walked over to him and sat in the empty seat he still had his eyes on him phone and I thought he hadn't even noticed me until he moved his hand over to my knee and squeezed it gently.
"You okay?" he asked after a minute of silence.
"Yeah" I told him quietly.
"What did he say?"
"He's going to call us in as soon as he's finished."
"What did he do to you?"
"Took blood, says he can test that and see if...." I trailed off.
"Your pregnant." Jason said
"What?" I asked confused.
"And see if you are pregnant. You didn't say it so I thought I would."
"Ohh sorry." I mumbled.
"You sure your okay?"
"Yes, just worried I guess about what he's going to say, he seemed completely sure about it"
"Do you want him to be right?" He asked staring at me.
"I don't know." I told him honestly. Having Jason's baby wouldn't be a bad thing and we are going to get married so..... I just didn't expect to come here and be told this, all the time I was sick it never crossed my mind that I could be pregnant.
"It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world Hayley." he sighed.
"I know. I'm not saying I don't want it, its just a shock y'know?"
"Yeah I know." he said taking my hand.
"Hayley Stokes." I heard the doctor shout as he exited the room he was in with me and headed back into his office. I stood up slowly Jason following close behind me and walked into the office behind the doctor.
"Well Hayley" he said as we sat down in the chairs in front of his desk. "We have your results here and it appears to be just as I thought." he paused and looked up at us before continuing "Congratulations your about 8 weeks pregnant. As for the sickness, its completely normal some women suffer from morning sickness worse than others." I nodded waiting for him to continue. "I can schedule an appointment for you to come in for your first scan right now if you'd like." he said pulling out a book from under his desk and opened it to a blank page.
"yes please" I said finally speaking up.
"How does Monday the 12th sound" he asked
"what time?"
"4:30"
"Yes that's fine." I told him
"Okay well do you have anymore questions for me?" he asked looking away from me to Jason then back.
"No nothing thanks." I said after a moment of silence, getting up out my chair to leave. "C'mon Jase." I said putting my hand on his shoulder. He got up taking my hand and pulling me out the door.
"So this means I really cant turn the spare room into a junk room?" Jason joked when we got into the car.
"Yeah I guess it does."
"I think its time we get a date set for a wedding." Jason said.
"Really?" I asked
"Well yeah I mean I know we were going to take our time and be engaged for a while, but I think it would make things easier if we were married when the baby's born." Hearing Jason say this made me move my hands to my stomach, it was hard to believe there was a person in there somebody who would be completely dependant on me and Jason, for the next 18 years at least.
"We can just book a date in the registry office." I told him. I didn't see the point in having a big wedding, it wasn't like we had any family to invite and most of our friends except a few new ones are back in Vegas.
"Are you okay with that." he asked unsure
"I wouldn't have suggested it if I wasn't." I laughed. "Are you?" I turned to look at him
"Yeah, whatever you want. I was just making sure, I mean a registry office isn't much, like a few minutes in there signing some papers and whatever else they do there and that's it."
"Whatever else they do?" I laughed
"Yeah I don't know how a wedding goes in a registry office." I said
"same. But we can call when we decide to book and they will tell us. I think we need somebody else there too as a witness."
"Makes sense" Jason mumbled pulling the car into a space in front of our apartment. "You know its good that we are on the bottom floor."
"Why" I asked confused at first he complained about wanting to be higher up.
"Well there's no elevator here so getting a push chair up and down the stairs would be a pain in the ass." he explained opening the door, kicking his shoes off and making his way over to the couch.
"ohh yes I guess." I said following him over and sitting next to him. He turned to look at me and placed his hands on my stomach.
"There's a baby in there" he said in almost disbelief.
"Yeah I know." I told him in the same shocked tone.
