I awoke laying in a hospital room that I seemed to be staying in a lot lately. I looked around the room to see a woman frantically running around the room shouting for nurses. The lady seemed familiar but I couldn't quite put a name to the face. The nurses rushed into the hospital room and they checked my vitals immediately. I had a thick comfy blanket on top of me and I was dry causing me to be a lot warmer than the night before.
"Well honey I can see both of your beautiful brown eyes this time. What happened to you sweetie why was your unconscious body found in a ditch?" The nurse I had seen all my times before looked into my eyes searching for an answer. I looked away unable to speak. I laid there shaking the words wanted to come but I couldn't put what had happened into sentences. As I laid there thinking more memories came to mind. I remembered the hated filled stare my "dad" had given me and many taunts that I couldn't seem to comprehend at the time. "You are the worst person for people to meet! Everywhere you go you bring people more problems! Have you ever thought about the problems you caused others?!" continued to ring in my head as I remembered what my "dad" had said.
I realized the nurse had left and I turned over in my bed still shaking from the flashbacks. Then I saw the lady that had frantically ran around my room during my every second of consciousness finally sit down. "I hope you know you scared me half to death!" The frantic lady seemed angry, scared, and happy all at the same time. "I found you laying on the side of the road! I thought you were dead!" I didn't want to respond, partially because I was still shaking and partially because I didn't know what to say, but I knew I must be polite, so I managed to whisper a hardly audible "I'm very sorry."
The lady was silent for a long time, until she managed to walk over to the side of the bed I was lying on. "My name is Elizabeth. I saw you lying in the ditch and I called 911. I came here to see if you were alright. Do you have any family that you want me to call? The nurses called that Mr. Morris fellow but he didn't pick up."
"No." was all I managed to say before I started crying.
