SONG OF THE CHAPTER: 7 YEARS, LUKAS GRAHAM

After about an hour of falling over, then slightly getting the hang of skateboarding, we stop for a rest. Who knew that skating could be this tiring?

'You're getting so much better!' Marcus says, sitting down on the patch of grass, set back bit from the concrete slopes and ramps. I beam, and join him. I sit with him for a bit, watching the air condense out of our mouths and turn into smoky vapour that vanishes quickly, like bubbles rising to the surface of the sea.

I follow Marcus' gaze, curious to see what he was so focused on. I trace his imaginary lines of sight from his piercing blue eyes, to the group of stoners by the stands. 'Whats wrong?' I ask, tempted to know his secretive thoughts. 'Nothing..' He trails off, as if he didnt hear me, but then adds quickly. 'Have you ever kissed anyone?'

Woh. I was not expected to hear that. I feel hesitant to tell him the real answer: no. I cant help but feel belittled and ashamed by his question. No doubt that he of course has, he may even have been further. His dark looks and bad-boy attitude and overall demeanour must have attracted plenty of female attention. But, when i come to think of it, no girls at our school ever gave him a second glance. I guess they thought he was dirty, stupid, soon-to-be-a-dropout. They would rather one of the athletic guys, with tanned skin and a muscular physique, popular in other words.

I look back at him, his eyes inviting me. 'No. No i haven't.' I say, mumbling under my breath, unsure of what his reaction would be. 'Me neither.' He replies. His black converse which were mismatched with his P.E kit, now start to dig at a patch of dried mud, scraping away at it, deeper and deeper. We sit again in silence, listening to the faint sounds of laughter, and the cool late-afternoon wind whilstling amongst the trees around us. Near by, a pile of leaves were blown up into the air, swirling around in a mini tornado. I study its form, a buzzing cone shape, ever changing and evolving. Suddenly, the wind halts, and the leaves hit the ground harshly, causing them to disperse widely along the grass.

I look to Marcus, and he looks back. His eyes stared to flit between my eyes and my lips. He leans in closer, bowing his head slightly to mirror mine. He stays there, his eyes hanging low, as another fierce wind blows. The leaves surround us as they spin around in their cone shape once again, encircling us in a natural shield against the outer world. I turn away my head, to gaze in awe at this rare phenomena and revel in its beauty. Marcus gently touches my chin and pulls me in. Slowly, then all at once, he kisses me. The sound of the wind companied with his warm touch upon my lips creates the perfect world in which i wish to live. His lips press against mine, harder than before. He reaches his hand behind my neck, deepening the kiss, and rests the other on my knee. I respond, putting my hands around his neck. We stop, pulling our lips apart. I quickly look down and fiddle with the sleeves of my hoodie, slowly ripping the seams. The leaves fall, leaving us unprotected and aware. I hear Marcus breathing, a little quicker than he would usually. My heart beat slows, on a steep decline of where it was during the kiss. My first kiss. Our first kiss.

He rests his hand upon my shoulder, and leans in close once more. 'I like you Daisy. A lot.' His childish compliment makes me squirm inside, but yet, he doesn't fail to make me smile. My cheeks blush and my smile spreads further and further across my face as he continues to whisper sweet nothings into my ear.

'Stop making fun of me! I was trying to be cool... shhhh stop it. Daisyy..' I cant help but giggle. Whenever I'm with him, I just cant help expressing the elated feeling inside me through laughing. Happy laughs, laughs to show him that I am completely content in this very moment, and there is nothing anyone could do to change it. I push him away gently, and stand up, brushing the dirt from my jeans. He stands up as well, and comes close again. He is so tall that his chin could rest upon the top of my head. I bow my head and lean in, my nose centimetres away from his chest. I feel his face lower closer to my ear.

'Boo!' He whispers, making me jump. I sigh of relief, and rest my hands on his chest, playfully shoving him.

'Hey, hey. I was only messing with you..' He smirks, sticking out his bottom lip. I laugh at his funny face, and he pulls me in close again. I stop, my face a breath's distance away from his. I say still, wanting to ruin the moment. He grazes my lips with his, barely touching. I take a sharp breath, breaking the tension between us. I step back.

'Its getting dark, I should go home now.' I stare up at the sky. The branches of the trees spread like spilt ink across the darkening crimson sky.

'Dont go.' Marcus grabs my hand, spinning me into him for the third time, for a split second i succumb to his request, but my ringtone finalises my decision.

'Hi Mum...Yeah Im okay.. Im coming home now... bye.. love you too.. bye.. bye.'

I quickly end the call, and shove my phone into my pocket.

'Can I walk with you?'

'Sure. Wait, where do you live?'

'Sycamore street, by the park.'

'Um, yeah, thats kind of on my way. I guess I could take the long way home.' I laugh at my subtle 5SOS reference.

'No, I dont want to make you late.' Marcus says, looking concerned.

'No, its okay. I dont want to be wasting my time alone, anyway..' Okay, stop with the lyrics, Daisy.

We walk slowly out of the Skatepark, and back onto the pavement by the road. I check my watch. 6:48pm. God, it gets dark early already.I stop at my favourite place. Its a rarity, that a pavement passes such a sight as this. There are no trees hindering our view here. Its a small section of the pavement, with a low iron fence along one side, the road on the other. It looks over the rolling hills and farms that surround the town. There is a large drop from the pavement down to the field below, and from there on, grass is all you see for miles and miles. It always looks beautiful, the lush green contrasting with the usual grey wash above. But tonight, its extra special. The fields reflect the rainbow of colours in the sky, making the grass seem purple, orange, and red. The remaining streams of light illuminate the sillohettes of the trees, casting long dark shadows across the plains. I look to Marcus, seeing the colours play on his skin. The orange beams of the street lamps behind us light up the back of his head, giving him a golden glow which makes my heart skip. He looks to me, sitting on the fence, my feet swinging dangerously over the drop. He joins me, carefully sitting by me. My hand clenches onto the metal bar for stability, but as his palm slides over to touch mine, I feel so light its as though i could drift away in the wind. I look down, at our hands intertwined. I study them, every line, crease and knuckle. All of them, perfect. I sit there, with him, and wish that time would stop. Just for minute, so that I could feel his touch for a moment longer.
