A Months Notice

Chapter Eight

Katherine woke up in the morning feeling happier than before .
Not once in all the time she'd been here did she genuinely smile and now she did .

But to Katherine it seemed almost to common for Jack to linger his lips on her hand when he kissed it .

She had to remind herself he was a former ladies man and he now has to get tied down so give him some space .

True she'd seen him smile at some of the maids and such but hopefully as soon as they were married he'd stop .

Clara came in and helped Katherine get dressed . Once Clara left Katherine opened the jewelry box and put on the engagement ring Jack had given her .

She walked to the dining hall with a small skip in her step .

"Good morning Katherine!" Medda said when she walked in .
"Good morning Miss Medda , how are you doing ?"
"I'm quite alright. And you ?"
"Good thank you "
"So, I got some more dresses for you to try on ! Not to old and not too ..... Young "
"Wonderful "
"So we'll try them on right after breakfast then at 10:30 we'll have the cake trying "
"That sounds good ... Where Jack ?"
"He's not feeling well . He might not make it to the cake trying "
"Oh ... Is he ill ?"
"He has a fever "
"Oh , "
"He should be go as new in the morning tomorrow "
"Oh okay "

Katherine ate her meal with Medda and they disused back home .

"Ready ?" Medda asked standing up
"Yes " Katherine said .

"Okay go ahead with the first dress " Medda said taking a seat and drinking tea .

Katherine came out and Medda circled her .

This first dress was large . Actually so large she could barley walk .
And there was the top was a tad bit racy .

"No , no .. Let's seem something else ! She has to walk for goodness sakes!" Medda said sitting back down .

She put on the next one and Medda looked at it .
The second dress was filled to the brim with beading . And it was long but not as heavy as the first one. And the sleeves where itchy .

"What do you think dear ?" Medd asked .
"It's a tad itchy " Katherine said moving the sleeves .
"It looks itchy too . Let's see another "  Medda suggested

Katherine then got another dress on.

This third dress had a lot of beads , but not as much as the one before . It pleated out a tad and it was long without a hoop .

"I like this one . We should put it on the maybe rack " Medda said smiling . Katherine smiled back she then went to the mirror .
It's .... not too bad .

She went to try on another .
The cleavage went down a bit more than the other dresses . But it was very pretty .

"It's nice but we would have to do something about her chest ... Next please " Medda said .

Another dress was thrown onto Katherine's body .
This dress had tons of beading and pearls . The sleeves went down to her hands and wrapped around her middle finger .
"I like it ... But we would need to put a colored ribbon or something" Medda said .

Katherine put On The last dress.
The dress was hooped and it flowed out . While the bodice had a bit of sheer material . There was lace all around and the top had more sheer material . It wrapped around her neck with a diamond collar and had small jewels all around the rest of it .
"It's nice . We'll see when we have the final fittings over which one we like best " Medda said .

And by we she meant just her ! Katherine said to herself as she took off the wedding dresses .

She had about half an hour till they tried cakes .... Maybe I should check on Jack .

Jack

Jack laid in bed . Papers around him and his glasses on the tip of his nose .

Suddenly there was a knock at his door .

"Come in " he said in a somewhat hoarse voice.
"Jack ? I hope you don't mind -"
"No , not at all . What can I help you with ?" Jack said folding a file .
"Well in about half and hour we can try cakes and I was coming to see if you felt good enough to come and try some " Katherine said looking at her feet .

"Oh , that's today . Yeah I'm just going to change . " "oh , okay -" "Katherine?" "Hmm ?" "Don't tell anyone I wear glasses " "How come ?" She asked him tilting her head .
"It's always been seen as .... Old and nerdy "
"I don't think they make you look old or nerdy ... You like distinguished. Very handsome ." Katherine smiled at him .
Jack chuckled "thank you ... You look very beautiful in glasses "
"Jack . I don't wear glasses "
"Oh , well you would look. Very beautiful in them "Jack said .

He got up and went to get changed . "Katherine. You can sit down if you want I'll only take a moment " Jack said grabbing a suit .
"Oh , thank you " Katherine said .

When Jack when to change Katherine looked in the mirror ... Maybe she would look good with glasses .
