A Months Notice

Chapter Forty

Katherine was laying in bed with the television playing .

She had a hand on her stomach where a tiny bump had formed . She slowly began to cry .

"Katherine?" Jack said coming out of his closet dressed for the day . Katherine took her hand off her stomach and wiped her tears .

"You know what ? I'm just gonna call Medda and tell her to run the country ... I think I should be with you " Jack said reaching for the land line .

"No dear , go to work ! You've already missed four days because of me " Katherine sighed .

"You and I are going out and Medda is running the country " Jack said and grabbed the phone .

He called Medda and she agreed saying it would be good for them both .

"Okay , what do you want to go?" Jack asked sitting on the edge of the bed .

"I'm not sure ..... " Katherine said shrugging her shoulders .

"I know .... Let's go on a boat ride around Elise Island " Jack suggested.

Katherine nodded and went to get dressed . She found that Jack had already taken all the maternity dresses and corsets out of the closet . She picked a soft purple dress and put on a pair of flats .

"You look beautiful " Jack smiled at her . Katherine blushed and they walked off . It was slightly chilly but she thought it would get warmer.

The boat started and there was almost no one one it . Katherine had put her hands on the railing and looked out at the ocean below .
Jack put his arms around her.

"Wow ... I've never seen this much of the ocean before " Katherine said .

"Look !" Jack pointed to the dolphins near the boat. Katherine gave a small smile and then the Dolphins started to leap out and make these little squeaks .

Katherine smiled ! She actually smiled ! Jack noticed and held her hand to his jaw . "I love you " Jack said holding her close .

"You do ? Really ? Even though I lost the baby and I can't .... I can't grow you a baby ?" Katherine asked , her eyes growing glassy .

"I do .... Baby or no baby I have you and that's all that matters. We can always try for another .... But we won't till your ready .... I promise " Jack said and kissed her cheek . Katherine smiled so big and turned around and hugged him .

Jack was in the living room typing up something and Katherine was on the phone with her mother in the bedroom .

"Katherine?" Jack asked walking in the room . Katherine smiled "I'll call you later mom , love you " she said into the phone and hung up .

"Yes ?" Katherine asked smiling . Jack sat down on the foot of the bed . And sighed "Jack ? What's wrong ?" Katherine asked him sitting next to him .

"I need to go to Oregon for a couple days ... I really don't want too but I have to ... There's a big riot going on in the States capital and I need to be there to calm down the public " Jack said putting his hand on hers.

"You do ?" Katherine said her voice breaking . Jack nodded and she pat his hand .

"I was gonna see if you wanted to Come with me ? We could go together " Jack suggested.

"I don't know .... I'd rather stay here " Katherine said looking at the floor .

"I know you would .... Me too .... But Medda isn't here and .... And I'd prefer if you'd be with me ... I don't want you alone at this time " Jack said .

"I understand that Jack but I don't want to go to Oregon ! It's going to be boring -"

"And you being here by yourself won't be ?! Katherine you just lost a baby and -"

"Don't remind me Jack I know what happened " Katherine said and she stood up .

"And ! And people get depressed when things like this happen ! Okay ?! I don't want you to get depressed  and do something stupid !" Jack said raising his voice .

"Something stupid ?! Like kill myself or harm myself ? Jack I may be 15 but I'm a lot smarter than you think and I know when I need to see someone for help !" Katherine shouted back at him .

"Katherine I'm trying to protect you !" Jack yelled .

"Protect me ?!.... Is that why you took all those days off ? Not because you wanted to spend time with me but that you wanted me to stay alive so I could make you another baby ?! " Katherine asked putting her hands over her chest .

"Katherine! That's not what I was doing !" Jack said back to her .

"Yes it was ! You just want an heir ! Well you want an heir so badly ! Fine ! Let's make your heir !" Katherine said and she laid on the bed and propped her knees up .

"Katherine-"

"No ! All you care about is a baby so let's make your damn baby !" Katherine screamed at him .

Jack got off the bed and walked to her side . He closed her legs and sat her up . "No , I don't care about a baby .... I'm gonna tell you ... You told me you loved me and I lied saying that I loved you back .... But when you lost the baby ... It hurt me so much to see you just sitting there .... Crying in the blood ... So who's I went to tell Medda I broke down crying ... I realized why I was crying .... I was crying because I lost the baby that I made with the woman I loved ...." Jack said to her.

"You lied to me ?" She asked .

"I know ... I feel horrible ... But I swear to god that I love you with all my heart " Jack said and grabbed her hand and placed it on his chest .

"My heart only beats for you " Jack said . Katherine had a tear fall and she quickly hugged Jack .

"I'll come with you .... Only if you promise to not lie to me anymore " Katherine said .

"I promise " Jack said and Katherine Lenard in and kissed him .
