A Months Notice

Chapter Nine

Katherine and Jack tried cakes .
Chocolate
Vanilla
Raspberry
Various types.

Medda told them to go each lunch... Alone .

Katherine and Jack were sitting awkwardly across from each other .
"So how long have you been wearing glasses ?"Katherine said trying to break the ice .
"Ummm , about .... I think .... I was about 12"
"Oh , are you nearsighted or farsighted?"
"Farsighted "
"Oh! My brother is nearsighted "
"Which brother ?"
"Oscar "
"That's cool ... Did you ever wear glasses ?" Jack asked cutting his prime rib .
"No , I've gotten tested but I don't need to wear them " Katherine said taking a small bite of her vegetables.
Then it got quite again .

"Have you picked a wedding dress yet ?"
"Well I've tried them . Medda has shot down the ones I like ... But no"
"Really ? How many have you tried ?"
"12"
"12? I've tried on one tux and two bow ties and that's it !"
"I wish it was that simple for me . Medda circled around me like an eagle "
"She does all the time to me when I have fittings " Jack said to Katherine while taking a sip of water.

"Did you have a favorite flavor?" Katherine asked
"I like the Raspberry Chocolate " Jack said
"Me too -"
"But knowing mom she'll change it to Vanilla Cinnamon "
"Really ?" Katherine said
"Yeah she always changes things"
The two had small talk about cakes and wedding ideas . Also Katherine's brothers . Finally it was over .

"Well , that was a nice lunch "Jack said .
"It was ." Katherine said . Jack smiled at her and grabbed her hand . Instead of kissing her hand he pulled her to him and kissed her cheek . Katherine grew beet red . "I'll see you at supper " Jack said and left .

True Katherine was a princess and princesses were not to act so .... Childish .... But he was still the prince that young girls everywhere drooled at and had posters of him on their bedroom walls or as their lock screens for their phones and computers. And he was such a ladykiller . And Katherine was still 15. And she still had crazy hormones that she hadn't completely been able to control yet . Her cheeks were still flushed because he kissed her .

Was it a 'your very beautiful but we're not married so I should g kiss your lips yet but I just had too kiss something other than your hand kiss '

A 'I feel sorry for you so yeah um enjoy ?' Kiss

Katherine tried to think it was the first one , but she knew it was probably a pity kiss .

"Jack !" Medda said coming in "him mom " Jack said reading a new law on talking on the phone while driving
"So , how was lunch ?" She asked sitting in a chair .

"Good " Jack said as he had the document open on his laptop and he was going through and changing some words .
"Did you and Katherine talk ?"
"yes " Jack said typing
"About ?"
"Wedding stuff "
"Like ?" Medda asked .
"Dress and cakes "
"Did you two have a favorite flavor ?"
"We both like that chocolate raspberry thingy " Jack said quickly answering .
"And the dress ?"
"She said you circled her like an eagle... And I agree  " Jack answered clicking a new tab open.
"I do no such thing !" Medda said defending herself .
"You do ,"
"Jackson ! I don't "
"Sure mom " Jack retorted sarcastically .
"Hey !" Medda yelled back .
"Um ... Mom I love you but I need to get back to work "
"Okay , are you feeling better ?"
"Yeah ."
"Okay , see you at dinner " Medda said and then walked out .

Jack continued to read the document . Making small changes and such . He was working quite hard . But suddenly he felt a burst of inspiration and grabbed his sketch pad and a charcoal .

He used a circle and drew a ring connected with another ring . With small shadows around it . He engraved a K. P. on one and wrote Not Me on the other .

"Jack ?" A voice said . Jack his the drawing and in came Davey . "Yeah ?" "Supper was half and hour ago " "I missed it ?" "Yeah " "crap .... Just tell my mom I did g feel good " "I would but your mother had her dinner in her room . Katherine and you were to eat together. She sat alone ." Davey said .
Jack felt guilt .
"Dave ?"
"Yes ?"
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Okay ?"
"I'm I doing the right think ?"
"Why would you ask that ?"
"I don't know ... Am I ?"
"You wanna be king so yeah "
"No , but is it fair ?"
"Excuse me ?"
"Like fair for Katherine ? She's 15 and ..... I'm not 15 .... And she's in a place she's never been to and she could be hurt . And this is too much for her young mind to get and -"
"She's very smart Jack "
"How do you know ?"
"She was with Clara , when they were trying to figure out the amount of guests from her side and she did the math like that "
"No I don't mean academically!"
"Then what ?"
"Like ....emotionally ..."
"I think she knows you don't wanna marry her "
"I know , but ... That probably makes her feel unwanted "
"Well Jack , her parents just threw her to you without any warning to her . Jack she doesn't have a say in this "
"I know "
"She's was supposed to marry the king of London "
"Really ? He's 41 and acts like a dinosaur with all his health issues !"
"Well her mother and father decided it might be best if she Marries someone younger "
"But I'm 25!"
"Yeah and the only other Prince not married was 7!"
"Oh ? That would be awkward "
"Yeah , she understands it's her duty to her people "
"But what about her heart ? I remember hearing she had a boyfriend or something "
"She did ... They broke up"
"For me ?" Jack asked
"No , because she had too "
"Oh "
"Well Jack I better go .... You should go sleep "
"Yeah , thanks Dave good night "
"Night Jack . "
