how dare you luke I have never felt so disrespected

"You didn't have to bring me lunch, sweetheart," my mom smiles at me, taking the bag I brought for her in her hands, "Thank you."

"It's fine," I shrug, "I didn't have anything else to do."

Her pager goes off and she looks at it on her belt, "Shit, uh-" she looks up, "You," she points to a flustered looking Doctor in light blue scrubs, "Put this in the fridge in the attending's lounge," she throws the bag at him, "I'll call you later, Luke," she leans up and kisses my cheek before running down the hall, shouting at one of the nurses to bring a crash cart.

I smile at the kid who's holding my mother's lunch, before turning quickly to try and get out of this awkward situation, but I hit into someone.

"Shit," I grab onto their arms so they don't fall before my eyes go wide, "Oh God, uh- so-sorry."

"Aw Luke, I thought you dropped that stutter in high school?"

"I um-" I clear my throat, my eyes scanning her face, "Are you alright?"

"I'm just fine," he smile still striking as ever, "Been through worse."

"How's Grace?" She breaks apart from me, running her hands down her clothes to smooth it from wrinkles.

"Oh uh," I furrow my eyebrows, "She's fine. Why are you here, is everything alright?"

"Everything's fine, Lukey," Ronnie smirks, "Just a check up."

"At the hospital?"

"Don't worry about it," she says, and I raise my eyebrows.

I smile at her before shoving my hands in my pockets, "Do you want to get some coffee?"

She looks at me, her big gray eyes studying me, before shrugging, "Why not?"

"So, how's living in LA?"

"It's alright," she shrugs, "It's a lot harder being a model than it looks."

She stops and furrows her eyebrows, "That sounded a lot my coincided than I meant for it to be."

I laugh lightly, shaking my head.

"What about you?" She asks, "How's the life of Luke Hemmings going?"

I laugh at the irony, "If I'm being honest, pretty crappy."

"Whys that?"

I debate telling her for a second, but than I realize that she's Ronnie. She's the girl what I was certain I was in love with. She was one of my best friends.

"Grace and I broke up," I sigh, and her eyebrows raise, "She's still in love with Michael."

"Did she tell you that?"

"No-well, kinda," I sigh, rubbing the heel of my hands over my eyes, "I broke up with her because I knew she did,
I could tell. But she told me last week that she think she still does."

"When did you break up?"

I think back, my eyebrows furrowed, "Two weeks-three weeks ago? I'm not sure, it was about a week after Cat was in the shooting."

"The shooting at the mall?" Her eyes widen, "Cat was in there?"

I nod, taking a sip out of her coffee, "She was one of the hostages, she was in this paralyzed shock coma-like state for a week."

"God damn," she shakes her head, "Now I feel bad."

"Why do you feel bad?"

"Because," she sighs, "I was a bitch to you guys at the wedding, and I knew that Cat was home and I didn't try to make an efforts to talk to any of you. I knew Calum came home, I knew Ashton came home, but I was too far up my own ass that I thought it was better not to talk to anyone."

"It's not too late you know," I assure her, "Cat and Grace have an apartment here together, and Ashton isn't going back to LA until next month. I'm going back to Yale at the end of the month, but I only have one more semester. Sure, Calum went back to Iraq but-"

"He went back?" Her eyes widen, and I nod, "At the end of last week."

"Shit," she shakes her head, "You know, I'm totally over him, but I really wish I could've seen him and apologized for just leaving. God, I'm such a bitch. I fucked up-"

"No you didn't, Ron," I shake my head, "You were given horrible news about your brother and then he told you he was going out there, it's completely reasonable how you acted."

"But Cat was given the news he was leaving after the shooting right?" She asks and I nod.

She looks down, "She didn't leave."

"She is his best friend," I try again.

She laughs lightly, looking up, "So was I."

I stay quiet, looking at my cup of coffee before I shake my head and clear my throat.

"Well do you want to see them?"

"Oh, no-" she shakes her head, "They all probably hate me."

"You seem to be forgetting that everyone left, Ronnie," I say, and she looks up at me, "None of us were here the past two years, but we are now."

"I go back to LA in a few weeks," she says, "It would be pointless now."

"We're not 18 anymore," I say, "We can all still talk."

"Just-" she pauses, rubbing her dark colored lips together, "Not yet, okay?"

My eyes analyze her face, from her eyes, to her nose, down to her lips, before I nod, "Alright."
