TWO MONTHS LATER
"I miss you."
I feel my face heat up as I look at Luke through the computer screen. I bite my lip to hide my smile as I respond. "I miss you, too."
"How have classes been?" he asks, folding his hands in front of his chin as he looks at me. His long, curly hair is pulled back into a little bun, his torso bare as he sits at his desk, his lamp illuminating a yellow glow to his face.
"Pretty standard," I shrug, bringing my lip between my teeth as I get a good look at him. He's so god damn attractive. "I feel pretty settled. How about you? Are you still in a heavy work load?"
Midterms are a couple weeks passed, which is crazy. Time is just flying by it seems like, but I'm not complaining. The quicker we can get to Thanksgiving, the better. I just want to see him again.
It's been over two months since I went with him to Connecticut and it's been pretty boring since. Cat and I are truly living normal adult lives, going to work and school and barely having time to see each other. Calum will drop by pretty often with dinner for us, because we always forget to eat and he knows it. Ashton and Cat speak on the phone like Luke and I do, but they haven't seen each other since he left for LA. It's late October though, so the NHL season has been going for about a month now.
I know it's hard for Cat. This was when things started getting rocky the first time around, and I can tell she's terrified that it will happen again. I don't think it will, though. They both know how awful it will be to lose each other again, so that's keeping them together more than ever.
No one has heard from Michael since he showed up at the apartment all those weeks back. I have no idea where he is, and although I'm happy I'm not seeing him, I do hope he's alright. I hate that. I hate that I still care about his well being. He basically cheated on me, and he was a complete ass. But he's Michael, and I don't think I'll every be able to hate him.
Especially since I've met Crystal. She's so fucking sweet, it makes it pretty much impossible to hate her too. If the circumstances were different, I feel like she would of been a great addition to our little group.
"I feel like I'm always in a heavy work load," he chuckles, running his hands over his face. "But it definitely has calmed down since midterms ended."
I'm about to respond when someone knocks on the front door. I glance over confused, Luke's voice questioning, "Is it Calum?"
"No, he's at physical therapy." Not that he would knock anyway. And Cat should be home soon, but she would obviously not knock on her own front door.
"It's probably my neighbor." I stand up, walking over to the door and turning the knob without looking through the peep hole.
My jaw drops as I look at him, a bouquet of roses in his hands. "W-What are you doing here?"
He grins at me, opening his arms up, "What? I don't get a hug?"
My face matches Ashton's as I walk up to him and wrap my arms around his neck, holding onto him tightly. It's been months since I've seen him, and I really did miss him. When I pull away, I look at the roses in his hand. "Does Cat know you're coming?"
"No, I wanted to surprise her," he looks inside over my shoulder. "She isn't home from work yet, right?"
"No, but she will be any minute," I step aside. "Come in, come in. Luke is on FaceTime."
He spots my computer and basically runs over, screeching to a halt when he sees Luke's face on the screen. "Luke, mate!"
"Holy shit!" I hear Luke exclaim excitedly. I walk over next to Ash and see Luke's face lit up, his dimple shining as he grins. "How've you been, Ash?! Now that the season is in full swing?"
