I listened to you 'di ba?
Maine grabbed her phone and quickly read her messages. There's actually only one person she was expecting that time. And she guessed them right.
Tinitopak ka na naman?
Maine rolled her eyes and dropped her phone inside her bag. She'll talk to him later.
"Meng! Kain na."
"Maya na lang Kuya Wally. Busog pa 'ko."
"Luh. Nu kinain mo?"
"Ano na naman 'yan bata ka?"
Maine scratched her neck in annoyance and looked down. "Si Alden kasi Kuya Jose..."
"Nagkatampuhan na naman kayo?"
Maine waited for at least two seconds before nodding discreetly. Jose and Wally looked at each other.
"Tungkol ba saan?"
Maine shook her head and bent her head. She stared at her fingernails, almost finding them suddenly interesting.
"May feeling ako p're."
"Birthday 'to noh?"
"Oo."
"Hindi noh?!" Maine exclaimed back.
"Kami pa ba Meng?"
"Eh kasi...basta."
"Alam mo kaming mga lalaki, kapag may sinabi kami o pinangako, ginagawa namin!"
"Naku! Hindi din lahat Kuya!"
"Pero! Aminin mo, wala pang pinangako si Alden na hindi natupad."
"Malamang ito na 'yung una."
"Meng...ano ba gusto mong gawin nung isa? Ikaw ang may birthday, ikaw ang mag-wish. Hindi na ata alam nung bata kung saan lulugar?"
"Eh sabi ko po kasi i-surprise n'ya ako."
"Oh? Ayun naman pala eh!"
"Eh mukhang may plans s'ya sa Thursday eh! I mean work-related!"
"At dahil dun nagtampo ka na?"
Maine went quiet. It sounded childish when her Kuyas voiced her emotions.
"Baka may surprise...!"
"Di na ako aasa Kuya Wally. Bahala s'ya sa buhay n'ya!" Maine stomped her feet and stood up.
Jose and Wally snickered behind her back.
