Chapter 4

Katniss POV

(A couple weeks later)

"Hey Peeta!" I yell seeing Peeta at the other end of the school

He runs over to me

"Hey Katniss!" He says

"How's your back feeling?" I ask him

"Better still hurts though."

"I'm sorry."

"It's okay."

Then the bell rings so we go to our lockers then to 1st period.Soon that class is over and we go to 2nd period. Peeta doesn't have this class with me but Gale does.

I walk into 2nd period making no eye contact with Gale just focusing very heavily on my desk. I can see Gale looking at me out of the corner of my eye. I see him smirking and smiling at me as I pass him to go to my desk.

"Your looking good today Katniss!" Gale says winking at me

"Stop." I reply not even looking up

"I'm sorry about the other day, but I don't get why you don't hang out with Finnick and I. It's just always Peeta. Give me a chance Katniss. Be my girlfriend?" He asks desperately

"No, never. Not after the other day. Why are you so protective over me? We aren't dating." I say and by this point the whole class is looking at us

Effie our teacher walks in around this time and the whole class goes quiet.

"Nothing to see here kids. Get going on your warm up." She announces to the class

The class does their warm-up but this period goes by so slow. Soon enough the bell rings and I walk out going to my locker and trying to find Peeta or Annie.

"Hey give me a chance Katniss, I know what I did the other day was wrong, and I just talked to Peeta and said I was sorry. Please give me a chance. I really like you Catnip." Gale says advancing toward me

"Stop calling me that." I say angrily walking away from him frantically looking for Peeta

He grabs my arm turning me around towards him.

"Giving me a chance. I don't get your problem." He says looking me right in the eyes

"My problem? Your following me around trying to get me to date you. Gale I don't like you like that. Open your eyes and get that through your stupid head." I say trying to sound as nice as I can

Then he finally walks away. I walk to my next period class trying to find Annie.

"Hey Kat!"

"Annie! I was looking everywhere for you!" I exclaim walking over to here

"I was in the bathroom. Come on don't want to be late to 3rd period."

"Wait! I need to tell you something! Gale wants to date me. He's way different then before he keeps stalking me and asking me out."

"Oh my gosh!"

"Yeah I think Finnick or someone needs to talk to him. That's not me."

"I agree. Now come on I'm not getting a tardy because of you."

(At home)

I get home and see my moms car is parked in the driveway. I walk in and my mom is sitting on the couch with Prim, i hear them laughing from the kitchen and it makes me smile.

"Hey sweetie!" I hear my mom say happily from the living room

"Mom!" I say running and giving her a hug

Even though I hate to admit it, I missed my mom a lot.

"Where did you stay? What did you do?" I ask her

"Well I stayed with one of my friends back when I was in school, I went to some places to talk to people about your dad. Since I haven't been able to get over his death for while now. And the people helped a lot." She tells me

"Mom! That's great!" I say smiling

"Yeah and I feel much better." She tells me

"How about you little duck? How was your weeks with Rue? I missed you." I ask her

"It was fun! We did a bunch of shopping I actually got some new clothes!  And we stayed at this hotel over the weekend!" She tells me excitedly

"That's sounds like a bunch of fun!" I tell her

"Yup! I'm gonna go upstairs to my room, since I haven't been here all week."

"Okay Sweetie." My mom says smiling at me and patting the seat next to her on the couch

I gladly sit down and have the first nice conversation I have had with my mom in awhile.

I tell her all about Peeta and how he went to the hospital. And how Gale turns out to be a jerk.
