Chapter 34

Katniss POV

Finnick opens the door to Peeta's room and slowly walks in. I totally forgot he was out there.

"Finnick you've been here the whole time?" Peeta questions wiping away his dry tears

"Yeah." Finnick says laughing a little.

"Did you hear anything I said?" Peeta asks shyly

"No I was actually downstairs talking to your dad and eating food from the bakery. Never let me down with your cheese buns but I think sugar cubes would go nicely in your store." He says smiling

I hear Peeta let out a sigh of relief. I guess he doesn't want anyone but me to know.

"Hey can I talk to Peeta for a second Katniss?" Finnick asks me

"Yeah sure." I say walking out of Peeta's room and sitting by the door. If I can't be inside might as well eavesdrop.

I put my ear up against the door slowly making sure to not make a sound in the process.

"What did you wanna talk about?" I hear Peeta ask

"You know how you told me to talk to Katniss yesterday?" Finnick questions

Peeta made him? What?

"Yeah." Peeta replies

"Well I found out I think I'm in love with her. She is so pretty and when she started crying I felt like I needed to comfort her." Finnick says

"Finnick, you know how I feel about Katniss. Please don't take her away from me." Peeta says pleadingly

"Because true love is breaking up with her and not answering any of her calls." Finnick says rudely

Has Finnick always been this mean?

"Finnick you know I'm hurting. I just wanted you to check on her for me." Peeta says calmly but only I can tell he is holding back tears.

"I'm in love with her Peeta." Finnick says slowly just realizing it himself

"Finnick you have Annie. We all know y'all are both deeply in love. If this is revenge at me or something please stop. I need Katniss, she is the only thing left that I love besides my dad." He says pretty much telling Finnick why he is upset

"Annie is dating Jayden Peeta. I lost her. I lost the one person I loved. Ivan been so sad about it I couldn't contain myself. And right now your being selfish, you have a lot of people Peeta so get over yourself. You lost Katniss. And now I want her." Finnick says causing me to open the door and run inside

"I'm not a toy you both can just keep tossing around, I make my own decisions and like who I want to like. And Finnick you idiot Peeta lost his family, so your stupid problem with Annie doesn't matter. Right now your the selfish one. Your not in love with me Finnick, your trying to get over your loss of Annie. Which you should just talk to her about." I say angrily my blood boiling inside.

Peeta's mouth hangs open as he has witnessed one of my rants. While Finnick looks amused.

"Kitty's got claws. I thought you liked me back Katniss?" Finnick says smirking

Peeta looks at me sadly and my heart starts beating 100 times faster than earlier.

"After what you said to Peeta and said about me I never liked you." I say trying to debate if I even want to stay friends with him

"I'm leaving." Finnick says as he bolts out the door leaving Peeta and I alone

I run up to him and give him a hug.

"Did you love him Katniss?" He asks me sadly

"No. But I'm going to be completely honest with you. We kissed yesterday." I say

"Oh." He says looking down

"No, no Peeta I love you I always did. But Finnick came over and was kinda clingy and I wanted the comfort. But I didn't think he would do that. I think of him as a brother." I say honestly

"I know it's my fault I let you go. I was selfish. I was mean and hurt. And I-"

"Peeta stop!" I say stopping him to continue saying mean things about himself

"I can't Katniss they are all in my head." Peeta says sadly

"Why is these effecting you like this?" I ask curiously

"Because I saw it all happen Katniss. I saw there car flip and go into the water." He says crying.
