Chapter 29

Katniss POV

I look at Peeta sleeping so peacefully, I gently touch his bruise on his face and frown. I know exactly why Gale did this and I know he won't stop. He wants me to date him so bad that he is hurting Peeta, physically. Him and Jack have a great relationship but why wouldn't they. They have 1 grant thing in common that they both love. Me.

I'm taken out of my thoughts by Peeta starting to stir next to me.

"How long have you been awake?" He asks me wiping the sleepiness out of his eyes.

"I never went to sleep." I say with a laugh

He smirks "Oh, you just like watching me sleep."

I just laugh. "How's your face feeling?" I ask, then remember he has another bruise on his leg "And your leg?"

"Better thanks to you." He says with a smile

"I'm glad. I called your dad and bother and told them I took you to my house and you fell asleep. I also called Finnick and told him what happened, so we can go beat up Gale." I say laughing a little at the end

"We aren't beating anyone up. He can do whatever he wants, as long as we just pretend we don't care. Eventually he will realize we aren't giving him the attention he wants and stop." He says softly to me

I sigh "That only happens in fairytales when everything turns perfect."

"Katniss, I'm not saying everything will be perfect but as long as we don't give him the attention he wants, he will most likely stop." He tells me again

"What about Jack?" I say about to cry, and don't know why I've been so emotional this week but honestly my hormones are everywhere.

Peeta notices the tears almost coming down my face "He may stop too."

"Peeta why can everything just be like it was before. Where Gale was our friend and Jack didn't come to our school and everything was going great." I say as tears barely come out of my eyes

Peeta wipes away my tears "But then we wouldn't be together."

I lay my head on his chest like I always do when I want to escape the world. Sometimes just being with Peeta and his comfort helps me forget about everything around me.

He starts to rub my back softly then he wraps his arms around me.

"I'm sorry, I don't know why I'm so emotional today." I say wiping away the tears "I just wish some things didn't happen and we didn't have Jack here or Gale."

"Everything happens for a reason Katniss, everything."
