Chapter 7

Katniss POV

(On the phone with Prim)

"Katniss it's mom."

"What happened?"

"She was in a car accident. She is at the hospital right now and I don't know if she will be okay." She says starting to break into sobs

"It okay Prim I'm coming don't worry."

"Okay h-hurry please."

(End of phone call)

I get into my car and hurriedly drive to the hospital. I then go in and see Prim bawling in the waiting room of the hospital.

"Where's mom?"

"They just took her into one of the rooms. They said she wasn't breathing." She says shaking

I start crying too. Not that much though for Prims sake.

"Why don't we sit down and wait, I don't think they are going to let us in anytime soon. I'm sure mom will be okay." I say trying to be brave and strong for the both of us

"I don't know it-it looked p-pretty bad." She says trying to control her crying

"Shh it's okay." I say wrapping my arms around her

She cries into my chest and I let a few tears escape myself.

"Do you want to maybe go to Rues house, and I can stay here with mom?"

"N-no I want to stay."

"Okay. We might have to call the school tomorrow though. I'm pretty sure neither of us want to go to school."

We sit in the waiting room for 3 hours and still we haven't heard anything. Eventually I walk up to the desk to ask the lady what is going on with my mom.

"Excuse me."

"Hello sweetie! What can I help you with?"

"My mom, she was in a bad car accident. My sister and I have been waiting here for 3 hours."

"Can I have a name please?"

"Susan Everdeen."

She types some things up in her computer then looks back at me.

"She is ongoing surgery right now."

"For what?"

"I can't tell you that information."

"I'm her daughter!"

"Ma'am I'm sorry but I'm going to have to ask you to sit do-"

"I've been sitting down for 3 hours and I would like to know what is happening to my mom!"

"I'm sorry sweetie but I can't tell you that, I was being nice just telling you she was in surgery. We aren't allowed to provide you with that information unless we have permission from someone. No matter who the family member is."

"Well thats stupid and you should get it changed!"

"Katniss come on it's okay." Prim yells from the waiting room

I give the women a death glare before walking back over to Prim.

I sit there and stare at the wall, then the chair, then the window. Then decide to just get up.

"Why don't you call Peeta to come over or something. You have been pacing back and forth for the past 20 minutes." Prim suggest

I nod.

(On the phone with Peeta)

"Hey Katniss what's up?"

"It's my mom, she was in a horrible car accident." I say starting to cry a little

"Oh I'm so sorry. Are you at the hospital?"

"Yeah. Can you come?"

"Yeah sure. I'll be right there."

"Thank you!"

(End of call)

"He should be here any minute."

I sit down and wait for Peeta just hoping his arms will comfort me and let me forget about everything else.
