Chapter 24

Katniss POV

"Katniss we need to talk!" Peeta calls to me, walking over to my car

I try to keep in my tears as I already know what is to come out of his mouth.

I sniffle "About what?"

"At least look at me."

I look up into his eyes full of sadness and anger.

"I'm sorry about yesterday. But I think we should stop seeing each other for a little but."

Unwanted tears trickle down my face as I wipe them away slowly.

"Is Jack your best friend now?" I mumble looking away from him

"No, I just don't know if I can trust you right now." He says annoyed

I frown.

"We have known each other since we were babies Peeta. I don't understand how you just can't trust me anymore. You know all my secrets and I know yours, we have-I thought we had a great relationship." I say sadly

"Katniss I still want to be your friend, I just can't trust you to go off with other guys while we are dating."

"Because that is something I do." I say wondering how the heck he got that idea. I don't have any self confidence.

"Maybe you changed and starting throwing yourself on guys."

I another couple of tears stream down my face "You think I would do that? How bad of a person do you think I am?" I take a pause as more tears come down my face. "You know I don't have that much self confidence, and I think you just made it worse."

I run inside as more tears stream down my face. Do people really think that about me?

"Katniss! I didn't mean it that way!" I hear him yell from outside since I left the door open

I break into sobs as I run to my mom, usually I wouldn't go to her for anything but I just need a hug.

"Katniss I thought you were go-" she pauses as she looks at me sobbing. "Katniss what happened?"

I wipe the tears away with the sleeves of my shirt.

"Peeta happened." I say embracing her in a big hug

"Oh sweetie it's okay!" She says wrapping her arms around  me. "He will come back to you."

"No mom you don't know what he said!" I say getting angry

She frowns.

"What did he say?" She asks me softly, letting go of me and leading me to the couch so we can both sit down.

"Well he pretty much said that he is breaking up with me because he thinks I'm going to start t-throwing myself on other boys." I say crying again remembering what just happened.

"Oh that sounds nothing like Peeta!" She exclaims getting angry herself

"It's Jack from 3rd grade, he keeps telling Peeta lies that are ruining everything. And you know Jack, how somehow whatever he says, the way he says it, you just automatically believe it." I say sadly

My mom starts getting up and going into the kitchen.

"Where are you going?" I ask her

"To call him!" My mom exclaims

Then Prim runs down the stairs "I already got that covered."
