Chapter 50
My broom slowly rose in the air, and soon I was gliding through the wind with my hair flowing behind me. A smile spread across my face before I let out a giggle. Flying felt amazing! The way that the broom responded to my every touch, how the wind brushed gently against my skin, and the fact that now, of all times, I felt no fears inside me. As everyone else slowly started rising into the air below, I dove down to join them. Zach grinned back at me from across the circle. My cheeks were sore from the joy that flooded through me.
"Class, I want you all to do five laps around the pitch, and then group up by a single goal post." Professor Hooch regarded us with stern eyes. I flew off immediately, but Kevin and Zach were quick to catch up.
"Race?" One of them challenged, and I nodded in confirmation before speeding off. In conclusion, I lapped Kevin twice and Zach only once. I started turning to head towards the goal post where Professor Hooch was waiting when suddenly I saw a flash of black, and someone rammed into me at full force. Before I knew it, I was hanging on my broom with one hand.
"FUDGE NUGGETS" I screamed when I looked down to see the ground far below me, and my fear of heights took over yet again. My hand let go of its own accord, and then the broom and I were tumbling back to earth. I flailed as I tried to find anything to hold onto. Soon, I had my broom clutched to my chest. Next thing I know I was hanging upside-down on my broom. I regained normal breathing as my broom started plummeting yet again towards the earth. "MOTHER CRACKERHOLE."
Weasley was soon diving next to me sputtering apologies. "I am so sorry that I didn't see you there! I tried to break when I finally saw you, but it was too late! Please forgive me?"
"I WILL FUDGING FORGIVE YOU IF I DON'T DIE FIRST. DO SOMETHING YOU IDIOT. OR GODRIC HELP ME I WILL TEAR YOU INTO A MILLION PIECES." The apologies halted as he silently pulled me onto his broomstick. I wrapped my arms around his waist and buried my face into his back. My breathing yet again steadied itself. "Thank you Weasley."
"You can call me Christian, and I am sorry. Just keep holding on." Thankfully a broom can hold two second years that probably weigh less together than the average adult. There was silence for a bit as he flew. "If you want, you can let go." I opened my eyes to see that we were now on the ground next to my broom.
I then laughed. "If I want?"
"I didn't mean!" Words sputtered out of his mouth as a blush crept up his cheeks.
"I know! Thanks again for the ride on your broomstick!" I skipped over to my broom and smirked in his direction as I boarded it and took off towards the others. The last person finally finished when Weas-Christian finally came back up. Professor Hooch taught us about Chasers and Keepers. I was assigned as a Keeper first, but whenever the Quaffle came my way, I went to intercept it, and at the last moment shrunk away. Professor Hooch swapped me with Christian so that I was a Chaser. He had been hitting the ball away to other chasers like he was playing hot-potato. I think I freaked some of the Hufflepuffs out when I would swoop out of nowhere and steal the Quaffle out of their hands.
"Next class you all will be training in the Beater and Seeker skills, so do not get your heart stuck on being a Keeper or a Chaser." We all deposited our brooms in the school shack outside of the Quidditch Pitch. Professor Sprout was walking over to bring us to our common room or library. We had to stop in the Dungeons though to retrieve the Gryffindors. When Caleb started walking next to me, I remembered. Crud monkeys, we have detention. When we passed the DADA room on our way up to the library, Caleb and I had to break off and enter the room.
Many older student were in the room. Aunt Ginny was one of the many, so I had to guess that these were sixth years. Some must be Gryffindors, but I do not exactly know what the other house is. But they are probably Slytherins by the green and silver apparel they were adorned in. There were still ten minutes to go until the bell would ring, and Professor Carrow was nowhere in sight. The sixth years were talking among themselves avidly, only occasionally glancing at Caleb and I.
"I wonder why Carrow has us serving detention with a class full of sixth years." Caleb found a pair of seats farthest from the door and closest to the back of the room.
"Probably because the Carrows are the in charge of punishment now, and this may be the only way they can give us our detentions." He shrugged and turned to watch the sixth years mingle between themselves. I took my Astronomy book out. My mind unfortunately drifted as I thought of my future in Ravenclaw house. It certainly would be rather different rather than last year when I was in Gryffindor. Back then, all of my friends except Kevin had been in Gryffindor with me, so I could look forward to every lesson. Now I was in my own house with no friends what so ever. Potter hadn't been talking to me at all so far since the day we met, so he didn't count as a friend anymore. Suddenly there was a huge burst of laughter on the opposite side of the room. It startled me to hear it, since everything around seemed so sad in the shadows of recent events.
"I DON'T REMEMBER GIVING YOU ALL PERMISSION TO SPEAK." Professor Carrow had returned I guess. "Now, we have some visitors with us today. These two second years in the back are serving detention with us. So, for today's lesson-
