Chapter 51

"You will all be practicing your spells on these two students. Try not to kill them, but otherwise we can send them up to the Hospital Wing and probably fix them up near new. Now, I would like to have two sixth years to show the class a new spell. For Hansen, how about Samantha James of Slytherin, and for Weasley..." His eyes racked around the room before landing in the Gryffindor section. A sinister grin spread across his face. "Ginerva Weasley." She turned pale before everyone's eyes as she was pulled to the front. Caleb and I were dragged down to the front of the room. "Today you all will be learning the crusitatus curse. The incantation is 'Crucio' and the more you mean it, the more painful it is for your victim. Now, James will you demonstrate first?"

She nodded with a sly grin, and said the word. Caleb fell down to the floor withering in pain. For a few seconds he was able to hold in the screams, but the curse was too much. As his screams ripped through the air, I dropped to my knees. "HELP HIM." I looked around desperately, but no one moved. Perhaps they were afraid of getting detention themselves, or perhaps they were petrified in fear. The curse stopped, and the Professor gestured for Ginny to perform the curse on me.

"No"

"Excuse me"

"I said no"

"Detention Weasley. If you do not perform the curse, I will make it a month's worth." Ginny's eyes widened at the threat. I begged her with my eyes to just get it over with so that she would not have to suffer. After all, if she did not do it, someone else would have to. She took a shaking breath and uttered the words. All I felt was slight pinching, as if someone was trying to tickle me. It stopped and I saw Ginny fly across the room. "Any other student who does not mean it will earn a week's worth detention. You, the Gryffindor in the front with the blond hair, come do it." The boy tried and it hurt only slightly more. I screamed and fell just to make the professor stop punishing the students. The boy stopped, frightened at what he had done. I stood up and winked at him so only he could see, and he breathed out a sigh of relief.

He dismissed us and we raced out of the room. A hallway or two away Caleb dropped his things and wrapped his arms around me in a tight hug. "Caleb, it wasn't real. I was faking it to save the boy."

"Oh," He pulled away to hold me at a distance. "I thought it was. Never do that again."

I laughed. "We just have to avoid getting detention again. Alright?" He nodded and we pulled into yet another hug. Professor Sprout walked by and stopped. It gave me the impression that she understood what exactly had just happened. Thankfully she did not ask any questions as she led us to our separate common rooms. I took a short nap to rest my body before Astronomy. Thankfully the rest of the day went on without a mistake again. Dinner came and went, and soon I found myself reading some books I had found in the library. Lights out came quickly, and I went to sleep.

The rest of the month flew by, and still I had no friends in Ravenclaw. I would spend my breaks with my demigod friends, and had not talked to Jacob since the beginning of the year. I found myself missing those nights when we would sneak out to meet each other in the demigod dorms. Did they even exist anymore? I woke up on a warm October Saturday morning. Thankfully the weekends were when the Carrows and Snape hid themselves from the world and Hogwarts was almost back to how it used to be. I headed down to breakfast and ate quickly. Today was tryouts for Ravenclaw's Quidditch team and I was going to try out. The only problem was that I had no broom. To my surprise, there was a wrapped gift for me. An envelope was sitting next to the package on my bed, and I picked the note up.

Dear Catherine,

I will get straight to the point. We missed many of your birthdays and Christmases and would like to make it up to you. I know we already gave you your kitten, but after you told me about your newfound love for flying, I thought it well if we were to buy you a broom. It is not the latest model I am afraid, but it will have to do. Good luck at Quidditch tryouts!

Mum and Dad

PS. it's okay you were resorted into Ravenclaw. At least it isn't Slytherin. Hermione would have been proud.

I smiled and unwrapped the parcel. It was only a Cleansweep seven, but there is worse. I grabbed the broom and raced down to the pitch to try it out. Not long after I had arrived, other team hopefuls began to group around. The team captain arrived right on time to start the tryouts. To say it went well was both an understatement and an overstatement. At first he had everyone fly around, and I swear half the people did not even know how to fly. I had almost been knocked out of the sky by a fourth year but I was fortunate enough to dodge him. Cody Potter was there, trying out for Seeker and Weasley was there, trying out for Keeper. Results were going to be posted the next day. I think I did well, but there were far more qualified higher years to get the parts.

I woke up the next day and raced down to the common room. The captain was just posting the list as I tumbled down the stairs. When I saw my name, I was overjoyed. Who cares that I only made first substitute Chaser? Nobody does. If one chaser gets injured, I may be in the game. Hopefully that meant that a higher year student got the Chaser position I would have gotten. But oh well. I BLOODY MADE THE TEAM EVEN IF IT IS JUST SUBBING. I'M SO HAPPY!

I really hope I can get the number of chapters to 64. Yes, that means this is over in 13 chapters. But remember that many chapters was most of Split Life of Magic... That book is shaming to me. But what is done is done. I cannot change the plot or anything now that this book is already out.
