By the time we finally leave the school, it's about 8:30. i would have thought that he'd let me leave after the whole talk with Jennifer, but no. Zeek had insisted that we run, work on correct hurdle form, and practice drills. I swear he's trying to run me into the ground.

"Sky, need me to give you a ride home?" He held out my backpack for me to take.

"Nope. I don't live that far." I shrug it on.

"Yeah, but it's dark. I doubt your mother would appreciate you walking home at this time."

Well then, maybe you shouldn't have kept me out this late. "No biggie. Tabby is not there. She's been in Canada for awhile now."

"So you're by yourself there? " When i shrug he frowns. "Hop in. I'm taking you back." To emphasize his point, he grabbed the back of my backpack and drags me to his car.

i look at him as he drags me to his car. "But why?"

"Because if something happened to you, no one would know until Monday at the earliest. Not taking that chance." Zeek tossed my backpack in the backseat of his silver chevy cruze. He opened up my door and tilted his head towards it. "Now get in."

Crossing my arms, i sit down. "You know, this is on par with kidnapping."

"Guess I'm kidnapping you then." He said with a devilish smirk before closing the door. i frown. I'm going to have some explaining to do.

"I thought you said you lived nearby. This isn't nearby. We passed nearby an hour ago!" Ezekiel glared at me. His eyes livid with annoyance as he pulled up into the driveway.

"I didn't tell you to take me home. When i said nearby, it was relative. Like i'm nearby the school compared to Mars. Besides. I only say that so people don't feel the need to drop me off."

He arched an eyebrow.

"You don't get it. I look like a little girl. People think i'm still in middle school. So when they see me walking at night parents tend to get worried and offer me rides." Just thinking about it is depressing.

He started laughing, a carefree laugh.

"Glad my struggles are so funny to you." I say with a fake irritation and a smile.

"it's just so like you. Always going out of your way so someone else doesn't have to." He stops laughing but there's still a smile on his face.

"you think you know me well don't you?"

"Despite your efforts, Skye, I can see through you nonchalant exterior. You bury yourself in books because that's your excuse to not talk to anyone. You don't want friends. Why?"

I frown at that. I don't need more 'friends'. My 'friends' from my last school were a-holes. Forget friends. When i don't anwser, he speaks again. "Don't trust me enough to tell me?"

I remain quiet. Do i trust him? Well, i most certaintly prefer him to some of the bitches at the school. But trust? It's not so easily given. But he trusted me enough to tell me about Jennifer.... "I don't know. I just don't want friends. They'll betray you. Backstabbers. I can get in trouble on my own."

"Want me to tell you what i just heard there?" Zeek's eyes meet mine. "That someone broke your trust. You let someone in and they hurt you. But that's part of life Sky. You can't be afraid to open up to people or you'll have a very lonely existance."

"Fine. I'll test you. See if i can trust you. Your response will determine if you're trustworthy or not. Ready?" I wait for him to nod. Then i take a deep breath, remembering the last time i told someone this and the outcome that followed. Please give me strenght to make it through this time, Jake.
