Chapter 22

I froze. Stiff as a board. "Why are they searching for him? How do you even know that?"

Alex looked down at the ground before continuing. "I over heard Kaz talking. Niko's mom is you sister, a half witch half fade. His father was from small town up north called Snowholt." She gave a tentative glance my way. "He was a Hunter"

"Wait what? I thought Kaz was Niko's Dad. "

Alex shook her head. "Actually, Kaz just so happened to be helping your other sister when Niko was born. They we're gonna kill him, Haven. They we're going into hiding and Niko's mom didn't want to make her Ordained suffer by taking care of another man's child. Kaz didn't want the boy to be killed so he took him. "

"That's messed up. Who is she to decide who gets to live and die. If she didn't want him then she shouldn't have had him. It's not fair to push him on someone else or kill him. Niko didn't asked for that." My voice sounded strange to my own ears. Tense, stiff. Who the hell would do that? Niko is a good kid, he doesn't deserve that kind of mom. One who would choose a guy over the life of her kid.

"Haven."

Alex pulled me in a comforting hug. That's when I felt myself trembling. I was so angry I was shaking. Images of Niko flashed through my mind. His bright green eyes. His curly brown hair. The light freckles on his nose. If Kaz hadn't taken him, he would have been dead.

"You know, she probably had her reasons." Elliot said softly.

I shook my head and pulled away. "If she had even thought she wouldn't have wanted him, then she never should have had him. You can't just have a kid and decide 'oh I don't want this. Let's kill it.' Why not give it up for adoption. You can't just take a life like that. It's murder."

"There is no adoption in the hidden world. If you bring a life in, then your supposed to raise it. " Alex countered

"Niko had a other family. Why not give him to the Hunters then? "

"Because they we're the enemy. "

"I don't care! She was willing to take away the life she carried for 9 months? If she cared anything for Niko she would have raised him herself of given him to his paternal family. Killing him, after he's already here should have never been an option!"

She better hope she never meets me or I swear I'll kick some sense into her. Maybe punch some too. Kaz is teaching me all kinds of fighting techniques. I can't wait to try them out.

"Haven what's with the creepy smile?"

I looked at Alex. She obviously knew what was going on on my head. "Why nothing at all. Nothing at all"

"When you say it like that, no one believed you. " Elliot said with a smile on his face, evidence that the tension had dispersed.

I shrugged my shoulders and changed the subject. "Why ais what's his face and Jenifer trying to get rid of Niko? " the moment I asked it, I realized the answer. "To make Kaz angry enough that he'd do something stupid? "

They both nodded. Then Alex spoke. "I've done some poking around. They started this snow storm to cut off Kaz's essence. Then they'll kidnap Niko to make Kaz come to them despite his condition, and you'll rush in to save him. Kaz wouldn't be able to help you and your essence would go out of control. They kill kaz or you and the other descends into madness or dies. "

"Why would the other die? "

"I know you guys are Destined. When a Sole loses a Destined or Ordained, they can't fall into darkness because of the light in their essence. Instead their Essence acts up and eventually they die."

"So if they kill Kaz I'm going to die? What about if I have an Ordained? "

"You're part Sole, you only have one. Soles only have one. Fades have two. But since you and Kaz are Destined and you're a Sole, Kaz only has one too. So if you die he dies too."

I stare at Alex, confused. "But a Destined just compliments your magic. How would one of us loosing the other cause death? I can understand the darkness but not death. "

"It's not always. But if the feelings the two share are more romantically involved than not, then death can occur. "

Did she just romantically involved? Me and kaz? Together? A giggle bubbles out or me before I could stop it. I just don't see it. "That's utterly impossible. I dont love Kaz like that. "

"I never said it had to be mutual. Even if it's one-sided, if Kaz loves you and you die he'll die too. "

"But he doesn't. He'll tell you in a heartbeat that I'm annoying. "

Alex gave me a look. "So if Kaz dies you wouldn't care"

"Of course I would. I'm human. If something happens to Kaz or Niko I don't know what I'd do. I'd probably destroy the world trying to exact my revenge. But it's not because I love him. It-"

Alex cut me off. "You just don't realize it yet. " I sent her a glare and she crossed her arms and gave me this look.

"As I was saying, it's because their part of my family. Like you and Melon. And you too, Elliot and Ziek. I'd kill a thousand for all of you. "

Elliot smiled widely. "Aww I'd kill for you too. Gaurentee you Eziekiel would. Alex here pretended to be a Kitty just to keep an eye on you so undoubtedly she's in. We're all in this together. So now, we need a plan. "

This was supposed to be up last week but it somehow didn't make it. Excuses you ask? Well, if you really want one... Here goes:

I saw a little ninja person fly away with my phone charger on a butterfly shaped pillows. I chased after it but it slipped through my fingers and out the window. So I had to go hunting for the little creature that stole it. I searched every where until I ended up at the center to the earth where I encountered the theif.

It threw my charger into a deep crevase that had filled with water that had seeped into the earth after every rainstorm for the past 2000 years. and I had to drown the evil pillow ninja to get it back. :D

Okay... That's a lie. I left my phone at my sister's house and she couldn't bring by till today. >.<
