~Kazimieras~
The morning sky was a dark grey, the sun barely visible behind the black clouds. Smoke wafted through the air in white puffs. pure white feathers float down from the sky. Bodies lay in the trench we had dug. Wings were scattered, shredded, and broken. Another city destroyed, by my hands.
Disguist rolled around my stomach as i caught the whispers of my fellow soldiers reached my ears. "I am surprised we won this battle. They had so many warriors."
"Yeah, they may have the numbers but we have Kazimieras. He's second only to Lord Irenaeus. There's no way we wouldn't win."
Yes, i am the one condeming innocent Soles to death. I am the second cruelest Fade, second to only Lord Irenaeus. They worship him, but they dont know him like i do. They don't know about how he motivates those who hold ranks. If only they knew who they served. A ruthless vile Demon. The Fade will be lost when he reveals his true colors. We will fall after he shows them who he really is. And I have no intention of being around for that to happen. I'll have to get Nikholas out by then.
Sighing, I step in front of the large crowd and speak in a loud clear voice. "This battle has been won. Rest up another awaits tomorrow. Lord Irenaeus will hold a celebratory feast, it's mandatory to attend. Let's finish clean up and check for survivors. Afterwards, we'll head home."
We take to the sky, each of us harnessing wings darker than a moonless night. half of us continue to dump bodies into the trench while I lead the other half's search for survivors.
We check by sound. Even when we put away our wings, they are still exist and each pair of wings beat in a different tune. No two are the same.
I pick up on a slow one. Its either trying to be real quiet or has just awoke. The Sole aren't born with wings, they awaken to them at certain ages.
I follow the sound into an ice cave. As I get closer, the louder the tune becomes. Let's get this over with. Readying my sword, I fly around the corner and stop short.
Two little girls are huddled together in a corner. The eldest is no more than a halfling she cradles the little one who cannot be any older than Nikholas. Their blue eyes stare back at me, fear all to relevant in them.
Clenching my jaw, I go up to them. I got to do what must be done. For Nikholas. Thinking that firms my resolve. Picturing his bright green eyes, I knew i wouldn't be able to do it again. Why i even try anymore is beyond me. I bring my sword down by my side and crouch so i'm eye level with the two.
"Listen you two, in thirty minutes, I will take all the Fade away, stay quiet till then and then fly south towards Nix, there are Soles there that will take care of you. Just say that Kaz sent you. Understand?"
The older one nods and then looks at her sister. "Hear that Melody? We're going to be fine. Thank you Mister."
I smile before casting a spell that will hide the sound of the girl's wings. Then turning, i exit the cave. I guess today's a good of day as any to add to my growing list of treasonous deeds performed.
Once the sweep is through and the dead are in the ditches, we all depart. I lead the way back to the Tower with one thing on my mind. I'm going to have to get Nikholas out soon.
~Haven~
swallowing heavily, i take a deep breath and step out of the safety that comes with hiding in the janitor's closet. Immediately, i see someone from the Track and Field team looking for me. This isn't going to work. i ease myself back inside and close the door softly. With my back against it, i slide down the door and curl up on the floor.
