Allie
North drops the car keys down on the wooden table stand next to the front door. She walks off to right down the hall to our master bedroom. She calls it that anyway.
When you walk through the front door you immediately lay eyes on our living room and small kitchen. The large space is split evenly.
The kitchen is to the right, with a small granite counter top island in the middle, an electric stove, cabinets and two sinks. Our small dining table sits outside the actual kitchen because of the island. The living room is to the left with a large plasma screen television sitting on a glass stand. Right now we just have three couches surrounding the square area. We're not exactly finished with decorating.
The floors are wooden unlike my old apartment; cold tiles. To the left of the place there's another long hallway with a bathroom and a bedroom. That's the place I go where we aren't on the best of terms.
I don't bother to head to the room. Instead I just drag my tired ass to the suede khaki colored couch and sit down. I immediately sink in and comfort holds my back. I take a deep breath and try to relax before she comes back out to tear me a new one.
After a few minutes of silence I hear the door creak open. I push myself to stand up and turn around to her. Her arms are folded and her satin nightgown stops short. Her hair is still in the ponytail and the makeup is long gone off her face. She looks upset.
"Are you going to be like this for the rest of the night?" I asked.
"Well you're not giving me a reason to be happy with you." She answered.
"I didn't mean for what I said to come out the way it did."
She rolled her eyes, "And what way did you mean for it to come out?"
I shrug. I'm not sure how to explain myself without causing an even bigger problem.
She said sternly, "Stop beating around the bush and just tell me. I'm not sixteen anymore I can handle it."
I nodded, "I think we moved in too quick. Moving in together took no time. I didn't give myself a chance to breathe. After Alix we went straight to making plans about our future. I didn't even get the chance to think about myself. It's been almost six months."
"Why didn't you just tell me that you wanted space Allie?" She replied.
"Because at the time it didn't feel like I did." I said.
"So you're not happy here is what you're saying? You're not happy with me in your space?" She said.
"You're taking this the wrong way North!"
"That's basically what you're saying! We're here now! I did this so you can have something smooth and steady! I took you out of that shit hole you called home!"
"I didn't ask you to do this for me!"
"Fuck you Allie! If you hate it here so much and you need your space then get out!"
I stop myself before saying anything. I've never expected her to tell me to just "get out." It hurts.
"Where am I supposed to go?" I asked lowering my voice. "Where North?"
She shakes her head and turns away from me, back down the hall and into the room. She slams the door. I wait to hear the lock turn, but it doesn't.
