North
I rub my thumb against my engagement ring and smile. It's so beautiful. I'm supposed to be typing some stuff up, but ... I'm too overwhelmed with all these happy thoughts despite all of the chaos going on outside of my office. I'm going to get to plan my wedding with the woman I love and most importantly she's getting around to healing her relationship with her Mom again.
It was a little awkward, watching them interact. I could tell Allie was still on edge about everything. She was fidgeting with her fingers the whole time, even after she had her episode. I knew it was going to happen too. Before I could intervene and help her, Maliah stepped in and brought her back.
Helena didn't seem to believe me at first, but she got her cold hard proof on a gold platter. Maliah and I talked further about it and she said that Allie does have a very small case of PTSD even though it's really hard to find out what her triggers are. It's very random and episodic and it only makes it harder for her because we don't know what to avoid.
The phone rings bringing me out of my daze. I roll my eyes and reach for it, "Ms. Millian speaking."
"That's Mrs. Samson." Allie said.
I laughed out of relief that it wasn't Hector or anyone else, "I'm sorry. Mrs. Samson speaking. Aren't you supposed to be working out right now?"
"I am taking a break, for once. Don't wanna pull anything." She answered.
"So you figured distracting me at work is a good idea?"
"You hate being there, so ..."
I smile and look at my ring, "Babe we're getting married."
"Finally," She said. "Has anyone asked about your ring yet?"
"Of course."
"Has she contacted you again at all? It's been like four days." She asked impatiently.
I sigh softly, "No babe, she hasn't. You know your mothers situation. You know she has like no privacy and time for that matter."
"Well she needs to find time because that court thing takes forever too. I don't want to be stuck here any longer than we need to be, you know?"
"When did you get so keen on moving?" I asked. "I thought you said you didn't care."
"I'd like to start over new. I've been thinking about it deeper and now's the perfect chance, no?"
"Of course my love. I just want you to be sure."
She scoffed, "I'm sure."
"And to answer your question that you haven't asked yet, but I'm sure you will, I am friends with people in child services and I know some lawyers to get this thing up and running. Just waiting for your Mom." I said.
"She can't stay there though," She replied. "Where is she going to go after she slaps the papers in Jay's ugly inbred face? He'll probably snap."
"There's several options. We can keep her in a nice hotel here, maybe rent a nice trailer or ..." I drifted off thinking about the last option.
"No." She said firmly.
"We may have too ..."
