Last night wasn't entirely blissful.

Dinner became stale quick. Hector was just going on about money and other businesses. I was barely listening most of the time.

I was stuck playing with the card all night, analyzing every curve and line in each number that she wrote down.

I'm wearing black spandex this morning and Allie's burgundy sweatshirt. It feels good to not wear slacks or jeans. I almost forgot I even owned a pair of these things, but at the same time I'm so used to my professional attire.

"Are you still in pain?" I asked Allie.

She's sitting up and eating a cheese steak sandwich that I got her from a corner store just around the hospital. They took the bandage off her head, finally. Her hair on top is little flat and I can see blood stains in several spots of her scalp whenever I stand over her. Her stitches are very clear indeed and they look pretty bad.

"I'm good," She mumbled through her chewing. "Sorry I was so grumpy yesterday."

"It's okay. You were in pain and I don't expect you to be giddy about that." I replied.

"All I've been doing is sleeping cause there's nothing else to do. I don't think I can go back to sleep anytime soon." She said.

I chuckled, "Pain takes a toll on you. It's really draining on your strength."

"I'm not in that much pain anymore. It's really just my head now. Sometimes I can't bare to think without it throbbing." She said.

I frowned, "Don't worry you'll be able to receive head massages soon."

"I kinda just need one all the time. You think they can open my skull and massage my brain a little?"

I smiled, "No, but they can prescribe you pills for your pain."

"That's just as good I guess," She responded. "What did you do yesterday?"

"I went out to dinner with my dad. He told me that eventually he's going to need someone to give the business too." I answered.

"Woah, big boss lady. Running a business all on your own." She said.

I shrugged, "I told him that I don't know if I can yet. I don't know how you'll be recovering around that time."

"What? Me? Why are you so worried about me? I'm fine. The only thing wrong with me is my fogged up head. It's not like I'm paralyzed." She said.

"Well I'm the only one taking care of you and you're my responsibility. You come first," I said. "Getting hit by a car isn't something you just walk off."

"You make it sound like I'm a ten year old," She said teasingly. "You into that?"

I shake my head and try not to laugh. Her humor is still crude and I love it.

"No, I'm not into that," I replied. "I'm into a lot of things, but definitely not children. Even though you act like one."

She smirked, "Into a lot of things? Like what?"

I folded my arms across my chest and said, "If you can't remember that's not on me."

She sucked her teeth, "That's totally not fair."

I chuckled, "It's totally fair, but I guess I'll give you some insight."

She smiles and leans over the bed railing. You would think some of her sex drive wouldn't exist after being almost killed. Sex would be the last thing on my mind if I were her.
