North

"What happened Saturday? You looked pissed," Sherry asked. "You stormed out like Zeus and shit."

She's one of my favorite co workers. Her melanin glossed skin makes me insecure of my own - so pale and lifeless. She's short even with heels on and her body is a lot curvier than mine. Allie thinks she's cute. I agree, but sometimes I get a little jealous about how naturally attractive and flawless she is.

"Nothing." I replied, organizing paperwork on my metal desk.

"You really aren't gonna tell me? C'mon Milly." She pushed.

I slap the stack of black font faced papers down and sigh. It's been bugging me since. I try not to think about it, but I know I can't ignore it forever.

I wipe my forehead and place my hands on my hips, staring at Sherry. Her navy blue blazer looks too tight for her chest. Her brown eyes are burning through me and it's annoying. Her cute tight curls slightly bounce with her head movements. I really don't want to talk about it, but she's going to make me. Like always.

I said quietly, "Allie told me that she ... isn't really that happy."

She laughed, "Are you joking?"

"Nope. She said that she thinks we moved in together too fast and that she needs space." I said.

"Milly ... I'm sorry. You know with you guys' messed up pasts, I don't blame her. She's just probably still trying to adapt." She said in her convincing tone of voice.

I scoffed, "Adapt to what Sherry? Nothing's really changed. We just own an apartment together now."

"You know when you first came here you were the ice queen. Stone cold bitch," She replied. "I'd never thought I'd get to see this much emotion out of that pretty cold face of yours."

I sighed, "That's because she is my emotion."

She gave me a sympathetic look, "Give her time North. She can't even remember the year she spent with you back in high school."

I shake my head in disagreement. Nobody is ever going to understand. I prefer to keep my personal business to myself anyway. I have work to do.

"I have things to do Sherry, I don't want to even talk about this anymore." I said in response.

"Alright, fine, but remember that you did make things better. You're doing great. Sometimes you just forget that not everyone is up to your speed." She said.

I gave the her the evil eye, "You're calling me fast?"

"You're one of the fastest people I know. Always up to date, always up to speed. Your life is a flying jet," She said. "I'm surprised Allie can even keep up."

I heaved in anger, "No, I'm not fast paced. People are just slow."

"Okay I'm gonna go before you start smoking out your ears. If you need anything just ring. Oh and by the way, your father is here." She said.

My mouth drops open slightly. He rarely visits his own business anymore. Let alone me.

"H-He's here? In his office?"

Sherry nodded, "Doesn't want to be bothered though. Something must've happened. It's rare your dad is here anymore. Prick."

I clear my throat and nod. My eyes trail down to the stack of papers in front of me. A pit starts to form in my stomach.

"Anyway, I'm gonna get back to my station. Wouldn't want the boss man to find out I was lolly gagging around." She said, her voice trailing off.
