Allie

"Tonight's menu consists of seafood, Asian dishes and really fattening desserts." North said.

We're sitting in the living room, waiting for her parents. I took another nap in North's room for about two hours. For me, there's no such thing as too much sleep. I took advantage of the free time we were given.

"I'm ready to get stuffed."

"Same to be honest. I haven't had a real appetite since the accident." She said sadly.

"I know. I can tell. You don't eat as much as I do."

She rubbed her stomach, "Tonight I plan to eat like a pig."

"Hot." I teased.

She smirked, "Wait till' you see me stuff my face."

I laugh quietly until Mya and Hector turn in the living room unexpectedly. I straighten up and so does North. I'm a little anxious about the talk they're gonna have, assuming I'm not going to be dragged into it.

"Hey loves." Mya said sitting down next to North.

"Hey Mom." North replied.

"Okay so, your father has explained whatever going on between you two and now I need to hear your side." Mya said.

"Honestly I feel like he just likes to pick on me because he can. He got upset that I was showing affection to Allie at a party. He doesn't approve of the way she looks which is not even his call to make. He's just been getting on my nerves lately and I need my distance." North said.

"I try to tell her things professionally and she reacts like a child," Hector said. He's standing a few inches away from all of us.

"Here we go." North said.

Mya spoke, "Okay, okay, Hector it's okay. North it's okay. We're going to handle this like adults. You guys cannot continue on like this."

I nodded, agreeing silently.

North spoke, "Well you need to tell Hector that we don't live in the 1950's, I can kiss my girlfriend wherever I want and just because she looks a certain way isn't going to affect "business" cause that's bullshit."

"You see? You see how disrespectful she is?" Hector said to Mya.

Mya sighed, "Language Nomie, language."

"Well I'm sorry, but that's literally how he makes me feel, like cursing all the time because he's aggravating." North said.

"I feel like she doesn't understand the importance of certain things. You don't make out with your girlfriend at a private business party where deals are made and investors are looking to invest." Hector said.

North scoffed, "Mom, please. We weren't making out full on. It was small kisses in a chain. No tongue, no lip biting, nothing."

"I can see why your father is upset, but I also understand why you're upset," Mya said. "North, you're not really supposed to do that in a place where everyone is watching, as unfair as it may seem -"

North cut her off, "You're siding with him, of course. This man is down my goddamn throat all the time and it's pissing me the fuck off."

I place my hand on North's shoulder. I know how she feels. It's not a good feeling either ... to be mad about something and no one seems to understand why.
