Oliver’s Point of View

I grabbed her hand and we ran into the wood and into a random trail. “Oli, do you know where this leads?” she asked and I shook my head no, I really don’t know where this trail leads to. We walked for a few minutes in silence until we came to a clearing and I smiled and looked over at Abby; her face lit up and she ran towards it. I followed her and she sat on the swings, she loved playgrounds if you haven’t picked up on that already. I sat down on the swing next to her and she got off of hers and came and sat on my lap. “Sorry I didn’t have anything special planned for your birthday.” I said and she just smiled. “Spending my day with you is special enough.” She said and kissed me lightly I wrapped my arms around her waist and she smiled into the kiss. “I love you.” She mumbled against my lips and I kissed her again. “I love you too.” I said when we finally broke apart. We sat there like that for what seemed like ages until she stood up and tried to pull me off the swing. “Can we have lunch and then go out on the boat?” she pleaded and I nodded and she jumped up and down with joy; she’s so cute. We got back to the cabin and everyone was inside making lunch, “Do you guys want sandwiches, we have every kind already made.” Corey said and we nodded. Abby got a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and I got the same because the rest had lunch meat on them. “Thanks!” we both said and we grabbed two water bottles before heading down to the dock. “Let’s take this one today.” She said, pointing to the peddle boat. “Alright, Love.” I said and helped her into the boat then handed her the sandwiches and waters. I hopped into the boat and we headed out, when we got to about the middle of the lake we stopped. The sat cross-legged and opened her water, “Gosh that’s tiring!” she said and began to drink her water, I did the same. I wonder if Maxy would’ve came camping this year, he loves-loved camping, I always use to go with him when he and his family would go. We would spend countless hours wandering through the woods and finding new trails and once we even buried a box in the woods filled with some of our things…like a time capsule. We would go out on the lake and jump off our boat and swim until we got tired then we would help each other back onto the boat, we weren’t the strongest people. I remember the one time we came camping here; it was one of the best camping trips ever.

*Flashback*

“Make sure you boys are back before sundown!” Maxy’s mother called after us as we ran off into the woods with our backpacks. It had rained everyday so far this trip but we are still having tons of fun; today is the first day it hasn’t rained! We were going hiking in the woods today and we took a lunch and stuff with us so we didn’t have to go back at all until sundown. “Come on Maxy!” I yelled back to him as I ran towards the spot we had picked out. We got our shovels and began to dig, “How deep does it have to be?” I asked him and he just shrugged. “This should be fine.” He said and we began to get our stuff out. “What did you bring?” I asked him and he looked through his pile. “Some of my old toys and action figures, my favorite book and a few movies.” He said and looked at my things, “How about you Oli?” he asked and I looked down at my own pile. “Basically the same things; oh and a necklace and stuff from my grandma that she had left at my house and when I went to return them to her she said to keep them…I don’t have a use for them so I guess I’ll burry them with the rest of my stuff.” I said as I played with the necklace between my fingers, it was really pretty. “Ready?” Maxy asked as we put our items into the chest and sealed it. “Yep!” I said excitedly, we planned on coming back to this spot in ten or twenty years and digging it up. We put it into the hole and shoveled the dirt onto the top of the chest and we watched our past being buried until a future date.

*End Flashback*

“Oli…” Abby said and I looked over at her, “Babe, are you okay?” she asked and I nodded. “I was just thinking…and do you want to go on another walk when we are off the boat?” I asked suddenly and she smiled brightly and nodded enthusiastically. We sat in the boat and watched the sun slowly move across the sky before we began to head back to the cabin. I helped Abby out of the boat and she smiled at me, “Thanks Babe.” She said and kissed my cheek. “Wait here, I have to grab something then we can go.” I said before running to the shed.

Abby’s Point of View

I watched and waited as Oliver ran off to Corey’s shed. He came back a few minutes later with a bag slung over his shoulder. “Let’s go.” He said and intertwined our finger, I smiled at that. We walked in silence to the main road and then about a mile away from the cabin. “Where are we even going?” I asked and he just smiled at me. “You’ll see.” He said with a smile, but there was a hit of saddens in his voice. We came to an old cabin and Oli ducked behind some trees, “This way.” He whispered and continued to walk into the woods. We walked for ten more minutes until he placed his hand on a tree and stopped walking. “Oli, will you please tell me where we are going?” I asked getting a little frustrated. “Right here.” He said and looked at the tree his hand was on and at the ground right in front of our feet. “Here?” I asked and looked down where he was looking, what the hell is this supposed to be? “Oli, it’s just grass…” I sand and he set down his bag and opened it up. He pulled out a shovel and began to dig exactly three paces from the tree; I studied the tree more closely; there was something engraved into the tree. It read ‘OSS & MRF = Best Friends for Life’ I ran my hand over the initials and realized the first ones belonged to Oli. “Oli…who’s initials are these?” I asked and without looking up he responded. “Max Robert Franklin.” He said quietly and I knelt beside him and put an arm around his shoulder and he stopped digging. “I miss him so much, Abby, you don’t even know how much I miss him. When we were twelve we buried a time capsule and I want to dig it up before his funeral.” He whispered and awkwardly hugged him from the side. I pulled back and he dug for a few more second before he sighed and reached into the small hole and pulled out a black chest. He sat it on the ground in front of him and brushed the dirt off of it; I took my spot next to him and looked at the chest. “It looks like the weather hasn’t harmed it since the day we buried it.” he said in a hushed voice, I knew he was speaking quietly because he was on the verge of tears.

Oliver’s Point of View

I slowly opened the chest to reveal the objects we put in there about ten years ago. I shifted and pulled out two plastic bags from my bag; I carefully took out Maxy’s things and placed them inside of the first bag and tied it shut and set it to the side. I then began to take my things out, there were some toys and things like that but a black case caught my attention, it was near the bottom of the chest. I pulled it out and opened the box and there was my grandmothers’ necklace and ring I had buried, I turned to Abby and held it out for her to see. “Oh wow Oli, they’re gorgeous.” She gasped and I just nodded and then closed the box, I know what I can use these for. I slipped them into my backpack and put mine and Maxy’s bags of things in there as well. I filled the hole I made and picked up the chest. “Sorry I dragged you along…” I mumbled and she turned me to face her, she was trying to read my emotions but I put on a blank face so to not appear weak or sad or anything. “Oli, this was amazing, I can’t believe you guys did this; I wish I had done this when I was younger. I’m sorry you lost your best friend, but I’m here for you, and I always will be. I love you Oliver.” She said and kissed my cheek. “I love you too.” I said and she pulled me in for a kiss, I kissed her back after a second, I don’t care how upset I am over Maxy, but Abby makes me happy.

We had walked back to the camp site hand in hand and then we went inside where I had hidden her present this morning. Everyone was outside playing games so I sat her down on the leather couch in the living room and pulled out a fairly large box. “Oli, you didn’t have to get me anything.” She said whilst blushing and I just shrugged and handed her the box. She opened it and she smiled widely when she pulled out her presents. I had gotten her a Panda hoodie, a Panda iPhone case, and a stuffed animal Panda Bear. “Oli, I love pandas! Thank you so much!” she said and hugged me. “You’re welcome, Love.” I said and she kissed me on the cheek.
