I no more than roll over and the baby starts crying. I was up most of the night puking my guts up (I thought I was supposed to get morning sickness not middle of the fucking night sickness) and now it's like seven and Avery is ready to start her day. Happy birthday to me.I sit up and rub my eyes. As soon as I go to get out of bed Tommy grabs my wrist and pulls me back it's bed.
"Stay." He mumbles.
"Do you not hear your daughter screaming her head off?" I wonder as he sits up.
"I mean you stay, I'll take care of the baby." Tommy says as he gets out of bed. "You need to sleep, you were praying to the toilet god most of last night." He reminds me and I smile.
"I love you." I say and he squeezes my hand.
"I love you too, baby." My husband tells me and kisses my knuckles. "Happy birthday."
"Thanks, babe." I smile.
"Go back to sleep, I'll see you in a few hours." Tommy says and walks towards our bedroom door.
I never really liked water and I've never really been one to go swimming but this one time right after we got together Tommy wanted to go to the beach. For starters, my father is Scottish and Irish, we're paler than literally everything and burn like crazy. I can't swim to save my life. I've seen Jaws several times and I really don't want to become a bony late afternoon snack to a carnivorous fish. Finally I'm always cold to start with so its a horrible idea for me to walk around in a bathing suit.
Either way, we ended up at the beach. I sat crisscross applesauce on a towel for the longest time and I watched Tommy swim and have fun. I was perfectly fine with that and I loved watching him have fun because he looked so insanely happy.
Tommy came out of the water after a while and stood before me soaking wet. He held his hands down to me and he pulled me to my feet.
"Come in, you're like the most boring person here." Tommy joked and I smiled. "I mean you're the best looking person here but you're not going in the water."
"I don't like the water, babe." I had told him but it wasn't a sufficient enough answer.
"Come on." He said and started to pull me towards the water.
"Is it cold?" I wondered.
"No, it's beautiful." Tommy promised me.
As soon as my feet touched the ocean all I could think of was 'you motherfucking liar'. The water was freezing and my boyfriend continued to drag me further out into it. We kept walking until the water got up to about my waist then we stopped. At this point I'm freezing and shaking. Tommy smirked at me and grabbed my arms.
"See? It's fun." He said and I rolled my eyes.
"Tommy, this water is freezing." I stated and he laughed. "I'm serious, I'm going to get like hypothermia or something."
"You're not going to get hypothermia, baby." Tommy assured me and I crossed my arms.
"I'm going to die." I stated which only made him laugh again.
It was at that point that we started to shove each other and I didn't think this through at all. Tommy is bigger than me and I'm clumsy. Sooner rather than later I lost my footing and fell into the water. I shot back up colder than I was ever before and soaking wet. Tommy thought it was absolutely hilarious that I fell and I was now soaking wet.
We spent the rest of our time at the beach slashing each other like little kids. At one point I managed to tackle him into the water which only made Tommy laugh harder. It was the most fun I've ever had while being as uncomfortable as I was.
Tommy
"No, dada." Avery says and sits down on the floor wearing nothing but a diaper.
"Baby, you need clothes." I say and sit down across from her. "It ain't ladylike to walk around without clothes on."
"No!" She states and crosses her little arms.
"Well why not?" I wonder.
"Cuz I said so!" Avery states and my eyes grow.
That's the closest thing to a full sentence I've heard my daughter say. I mean she's only a year so I didn't think she could form sentences yet but Avery just said that as clear as day.
"You have your mother's attitude, Avie." I tell her. "But mommy wears clothes."
"No." My daughter says and I laugh.
"I wish that was the case, sweetheart." I laugh.
After arguing with a one year old for about half an hour I do get her convinced to put clothes on. I carry her downstairs and put her in her high chair before finding her sippy cups and baby food. I sit down across from her and start to feed her. Avery likes to make a mess of literary everything while she eats and it's kinda funny until you're the one feeding her.
When I'm on tour I miss all this stuff with Avery and while I'm home I realize how much Darcy actually does. Our daughter is always clean cut and ready because of her mom being here twenty four seven. I have no idea how Darcy does it right now, I really am lost when it comes to her being pregnant and doing all this stuff too. Or how she's going to do it with two little ones. Christ, Darcy sure lives up to her superhero boxers.
"Your mommy is a superhero, Avie." I tell my daughter.
A couple of hours later I hear the water turn on upstairs and I know that Darcy is awake and taking a shower. I'm playing on the floor with Avery and her blocks. About twenty minutes later Darcy comes downstairs dressed and I smile as she sits down on the floor beside us.
"Were you able to get any sleep?" I wonder and she nods.
"Was she good?" Darcy asks and links her fingers with mine.
"Avery is always good, she's our little angel, remember?" I ask her and she smiles.
Darcy kisses my cheek quickly and I turn to face her, she smiles and kisses my lips gently. I kiss her back and we hear our daughter mocking us with little kissy noises again and I chuckle into my wife's mouth. Darcy pulls back and puts her forehead on mine.
"I kinda love you, Tommy Lee." She says quietly and I grin.
"I kinda love you too, Darcy Nicole Lee." I tell her.
