*Twitch*
I jerked up from my slumber, glancing wildly around the room. Everything was dark, and the guys were still sleeping. Nothing seemed wrong.
So what woke me up? I thought. I glanced down at the lifeless body of Brodie before me. Still no movement. I sighed heavily and carefully untangled my fingers from her frail hand. She hadn't moved in days. The doctors were starting to lose faith iin her, and had been lightly trying to give me hints about pulling the plug.
"But you're still in there, aren't you," I whispered. I reached out and touched her warm face, wishing she would wake up.
I leaned back in my chair and stared up at the ceiling, tryiing to clear the images of my girlfriend laying in a bloody heap on the floor. Suddenly, my eyes shot wide open. I looked wildly back at Brodie.
Her cheek was warm...
For days, her body was iceberg cold. When I had just reached out and touched her, she was warm.
"Matty! Jordan! Guys! Wake up!" I shouted, not caring that it was late and everyone else in the hospital was sleeping. They moved Brodie to a private ward anyway, so there probably wasn't very many people to disturb anyway.
"Guys! Wake up!" I shoute again. I ran over and shook Lee violently. He groaned and rolled back over away from me.
"Guys! Please! I cired. Jordan opened his eyes and looked up at me.
"Oli. Mate, it's three in the moring. What are you shouting at?" he asked. I shook him violently.
"Brodie's face is warm! Her face! I just touched it! It was warm! And I think I felt her twitch! It woke me up!" I shouted. He looked at me like I had lost my mind.
"Why is a twitch and a warm face a big deal?" he asked. I looked at him in disbelief.
"Jordan. She hasn't moved in days. And she has been ice cold since we found her. Go touch her. She's warm," I said. He looked like he still didn't understand.
"Don't you get it? The doctors said if she was brain dead, those things wouldn't happen. She can't be brain dead if she's warm," I said. As if a light bulb went off, he shot over to the bed, grabbing her hand.
"She is warm. And he hands are sweaty. Go get a doctor!" he called. I nodded and darted out the door. The nurses station was just around the corner. The night nurse was sitting reading a book when I came crashing around.
"Mr Sykes? What are you doing up so late?" she asked as she set her book down. I gaspe for air.
"Brodie. She moved. She's sweating." I panted. Her blue eyes shot open.
"She is? Well I'll be damned! I'll call the doctor in right away!" she said. I nodded and darted back around the corner to Brodie's room. The lights were all on now, and the guys were all awake, standing around Brodie's bed with anxious faces.
"They are calling the doctor in," I said. Jordan nodded. I pushed him aside and presse my palm to Brodie's now very warm forhead.
"Brodie. Babe. Please, come back to me. Please," I whispered. I laced my fingers through her's again, glancing up at her moniters. The heart beat line had gotten steadily faster.
"She's pulling though," Lee whipsered. Tears sprung to my eyes.
"Come on, Brod," I whispered. Her doctors came rushing in, pushing the guys out of the room. I backed away and let them take over. Jordan dragged me out of the room.
"Come on, let's go to the cafe or something. You'll just make yourself sick by staying in there while they work on her," he said. I barely nodded, unable to take my mind off Brodie.
The guys and I sat around the small table, sipping on the luke warm coffee.
"So, what are we going to do about Tyler?" Lee asked. I clenteched my coffee cup tighter.
"I'm going to kill him," I whispered. Matt rested his hand on my arm.
"No, Oli. That's not going to help much. You are going to stay here and sit with your girlfriend. When Brodie is recovered, she can take him to court. Tyler will be put in prison and she'll never have to worry about him again," he said.
"You saw what he fucking did to her," I said through clentched teeth.
"We all did. Which is why the satisfaction of him getting raped up the ass by big prison mates is much better than seeing my best mate sit in prison while we look after his girlfriend," he said. The guys all busted up laughing, and I felt myself start to relax. Matt was right. I killing Tyler wouldn't solve anything. Besides, it didn't matter now. Brodie was coming back to me.
--------------
"Well, Mr Sykes. Although Brodie has made a very remarkable recovery, we still can not give you a postive answer as to when she is going to wake up. All we can do is continue waiting. But, as surprising as she has been here in the last few hours, who knows," the doctor said. I gave him a curt nod before turning my gaze back to Brodie. Her once pale cheeks were now red in color, and her heart beat was much steadier.
The guys and I didn't know what else to do but to sit around and wait. Every once in a while, her fingers would twitch, or her toes would wiggle. Every time she moved, my heart skip a beat, praying that this would be the time she would wake up.
Eventually, everyone fell back asleep since nothing spectacular was going on. I still clutched Brodie's hand in mine as I leaned closer to her and rested my head on her shoulder.
"You can make it through this Brodie. You're the strongest girl I have ever met. You made it through everything that has ben thrown at you, and I know you'll pull though this one too. You have to come back to me, Brodie. I can't make it here without you. I just can't. I'm not strong enough to. Just come back to me Brodie. Please.. Come back to me..."
