"Brod, you haven't touched a bite of your dinner," Jordan said. Brodie's head jerked up from her dinner plate and glanced around the room. The guys were staring at her intently.
"Uh, sorry, I guess I'm not hungry," she said quietly. I pushed my plate away and looked up at her.
"What's wrong?" I asked quietly. She glanced up at him. Her eyes were filled with hurt., which made my heart beat faster and faster.
"Nothing, it's nothing," she said. She dropped her fork down and pushed away from the table. "I think I'm going to go lay down. I'm kinda beat. It's all this heat, you know?" she said. I jumped up to stop her, but she stopped me instead.
"You stay," she said.
"But, Brod," I pleaded, but she shook my head.
"It's fine Oli. I'm just going to go lay down," she said. She brushed past me and darted to the back. I heard her lay down in the bed with out another word.
I slowly walked over to the table and sat back down. Jordan rested his hand on my shoulder.
"She'lll be okay. The tour might be getting to her. Can't be easy carrying a baby, you know," he said. I nodded but didn't say anything. Something was bothering her. I knew her better than she thoought. All that hurt in her eyes? There had to be a reason...
I pushed my food around my plate, but I wasn't hungry anymore. Slowly, the guys all turned in for bed. We had another big venue to play tomorrow.
"You going to bed?" Lee asked.
"I don't know. Brodie's mad at me. I don't know why, but she is. Maybe I'll just sleep out here," I said.
"That won't help," he said. I raised an eye brow at him.
"What do you mean?" Lee rolled his eyes.
"You know how women are. Sure, she might be mad at you, but you gotta like, try and fix it, and if you don't, she'll be even more upset than she already is. My suggestion is to go to bed with her. Besides, she's pregant. She's probably just, you know, moody," he said. I stared at him for a few seconds before finally looking away.
"Yeah, okay. I guess I'll try," I said quietly. I pushed myself off the couch and followed him to the back. The light was off in our bunk, but i had a feeling she was still awake.
"Brod?" I called quietly as I pushed open the curtain. She was facing the window, and she didn't move. I reached over and touched her shoulder.
"What Oli," she asked quietly. I sighed and crawled in bed with her. I tried to pull her closer to me, but she wouldn't move.
"What's wrong?" I asked quietly. I brushed the hair away from the back of her neck and rubbed it softly. She rolled over to face me.
"Who's Amanda?" she asked quietly. My stomach lurched.
"She's.. An ex of mine," I said quietly.
"Well, she must not have gotten the message that she's an ex," she whispered quietly. She shoved my phone at me. Staring back up at me was messages from Amanda and I. My heart sank. Even though all the messages I had sent to her were of me trying to get rid of her, it didn't matter. She was persistant as always, and now, Brodie knew.
"Why couldn't you tell me?" she asked quietly. I tossed my phone down to the bottom of the bunk. I wanted so desperatly tp pull her tiny frame agaisnt mine, but I knew she wouldn't have it.
"Because I didn't know what to tell you. She's crazy, Brodie. I broke up with her so long ago, but she just can't seem to let me go," I said.
"I can see that. She seems to know a lot about you," she said.
"That's not my fault, and you know that. A lot of people know a lot about me," I said.
"She seemed to know more than I did," she whispered. My heart sank again. I knew what she was talking about. My self harm problems. Amanda knew alright, because I had done the same thing when I was dating her. I hadn't meant to tell her, but I guess I let it slip.
"I'm sorry, Brodie. I should have told you," I said.
"Yeah, you should have. I am your girlfriend. Not her. Yet she seemed to know a lot. It took you forever to tell me!" she said. Her eyes were watery.
"I know, I'm sorry. But she doesn't matter, Brodie. She's my ex, and you're my fiancee. I don't care about her. And I love you. I'm sorry, Brod," I said. Her eyes continued to water. She grabbed my hand and placed it on her stomach. My heart lurched as the little person growing inside kicked slightly.
"This is what matters now, Oli. You're having a baby now. There isn't time for stupid little secrets. I can't have that," she said. I nodded. I knew she wasn't mad anymore, but it still urt to hear her talk like that.
"I'm sorry Brodie. I should have told you about her. And I shouldn't have told her things that I should have been telling you. I'm sorry," I whispered. I leaned forward and kissed her head slightly. Her body was stil tense, but she didn't pull away.
"Just use your head a little better next time," she said. She laid her head aginst my shoulder and closed her eyes. "I'm sorry I as so grumpy," she said quietly. I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her tightly.
"You don't need to apologize. You had a right," I said.
"Well I probably could have said something instead of making you come to me," she said. I rolled my eyes and stroked her hair.
"It's what men do. We grovel."
"You grovel?"
"Yes, grovel for your forgiveness," I said. She chuckled slightly.
"Well you groveled well," she said, "but I would have forgiven you anyway," she whispered. She snuggled down closer to me.
"I love you, Brodie," I said.
"I love you too, Oliver," she whispered.
