This is with an OC of mine... I just want to say... that it's a long and complicated story as of how Ace survived Marineford. But my sister is writing the fanfiction (with a tiny bit of my help) of how it happened. When it comes out I will put a link to her, or the book. The next one will be a x-reader, I hope you can wait for it. That's all for now. Thank you.
Third Person POV
Mist and Ace are the... worst... best... perfect... pick whatever you want to say, but they have been dating for two years (at the very least). These two fight like cats and dogs, yet they always seem to show affection. To any outsiders it seems that they are just everyday crew mates, but, to those who know them, they've changed.
Ace decided that today, they were going to actually act like a couple. It's the Fourth of July. He remembered her once saying that she wanted to see some fireworks.
"Hey Mist?" Ace calls out to her as he walks around trying to find her.
"What is it Ace?" she pokes her head out of the doorway, her bright peach hair cascading down to her shoulders.
"Well... I... want you to...," he's been wanting to suprise her, "go with me to the town. We need to gather supplies."
She raises an eyebrow, but smiles happily, "Sure! I've been wanting to get off the ship for a while now. I'm happy that you thought to ask me!"
"H-hey! I've never forced you to do anything you weren't comfortable with!" Ace pouts and she walks over to him, stands up on her toes and places a kiss on his cheek.
"I know. It's just you never take me out. I was starting to worry," she falls back down onto the pads of her feet.
"What do you have to worry about?" his face scrunches with confusion.
"I... don't... know. I thought... maybe that.... you didn't love me anymore," she looks down, "or worse. That... you were cheating on me."
"Do you seriously believe I'd cheat on you?" he bites his lip and sighs heavily, "I could never do that. Mist, I love you. I... don't... want you to ever feel that I don't."
"But... you've been ignoring me lately. You can't just expect me to think that a person who won't look at me to still be in love with me," she lets out a breath she's been keeping in.
"I'm sorry. About that. It's just..." he trails off.
"What? It's just... what?" her green eyes search him for any signs to cause her to worry.
He gives her a big grin, "You'll see soon."
She gives him a confused look, but soon it fades into pure happiness, "I can't wait!"
----------------Time Skip--------------
The town has streamers hanging around and little lanterns stringing about the whole street. It has little booths with festival games. The streets were packed with people; young, old, teens, adults, etc. Mist was taken a back, but after a few moments she was happy.
"What's up with the set up with the town today?" Mist turns toward Ace and smiles.
"Well. It's a holiday. So... they're celebrating," he turns to her, "Why don't we join them?"
"..." she doesn't answer him for a while, but she turns back to him, "Was this your plan all along?"
"Ahhh.... you caught me," he mocks, "No. Well... not all of it. Come on!"
He takes her hand and drags her away. They go to a nice food place and he sits down next to her. They have a nice long talk about nothing in general. He pays and they walk back out of the restaurant.
"What do you want to do next?" Ace takes her hand and looks at her.
"Hm... I want to... go to a store. Filled with tiny cute things. Or fluffy things! I want a giant stuffed giraffe!" she smiles so innocently that he forgot how to breath for a minute or two.
"Sure. We can do that," he leads the way. Never letting go of her hand through the crowd.
The shop is crowded, but Ace patiently waits for her. The line is crazy, but he pays for it nonetheless. When they leave the shop Mist throws her arms around him.
"Thank you," she whispers to him, "I love you."
He blushes and hugs her back, "We haven't even gotten to the best part yet."
"There's more?! But it's almost dark! The sun's setting!" Mist exclaims as Ace starts dragging her away again.
They get to a river and he sits down by the edge. She follows his lead and sits down next to him, "What is it Ace? Why'd you do all this stuff for me?"
"Because you're my girlfriend and I love you. I know I haven't been showing it lately, but I've been trying to make up something for us to do together alone. Then, I heard about this island, and what they celebrate today, and how they celebrate. It sounded fun. I'm glad you enjoyed it," Ace holds her hand and looks at the sunset.
She tightens her grip on his hand and moves closer to him. She rests her head on his shoulder.
The sun sets without them saying another word to eachother. It's dark and she moves even closer to him. He looks over at her as the first firework goes off. Her eyes grow wide and then she looks at him smiling.
"You're the best. I love you Ace," she watches the fireworks smiling the whole time.
He doesn't watch the fireworks. The only thing his attention is on is her. She's the world to me. I'm so happy I met her.
The fireworks slowly die down and she faces him, when she's sure they weren't going off anymore, "Thank you Ace. I'm happy you saved me."
"You're happy I saved you?! Just think of how grateful I am that you guys saved me," he smiles and she tilts her head.
"When did that happen?" she gives him a serious look.
"On Marineford. If you weren't there... I'd be dead right now," he places a kiss on her hand.
"Oh... right. That did happen," she tries to smile, "But. If you didn't save me... you'd be dead now anyway."
"...That may be true," he gives her a smile, "but-"
"So... in a way. I owe you. You just saved yourself," just then a another firework is shot making a loud sound. She buries her head onto his chest, giving out a little yelp.
"H-hey... there's no need to be afraid. It's just a firewo-" she looks up to him with tears forming in her eyes, "W-what's wrong Mist?"
"I-I'm sorry... it's just... I... the firework... just reminded me of... what happened... on Marineford... it... scares me," she hugs him tightly. Throwing her arms around his neck and resting her head on his shoulder again, "The thought of losing you. I just... love you so much. It kills me... thinking... you'll be gone. It hurts. I guess... the reason I fight with you so often now... is because... when you were taken in... I couldn't do anything of it, and then... you almost died. I don't feel worthy enough to have you. And then the fact that I'm almost impo-"
"Mist," he takes her chin in his hand and tilts her head up to look in her eyes, "You are worthy. I didn't want you to see me the way I was. I didn't want you to get hurt. You always insisted that you had to come with me while I was searching for Blackbeard. I was worried you would get caught up in something bad. That's why... I want to protect you, now more than ever. I love you. No matter how impossible you may seem, or be. You're the only one I love this deeply."
"Ace... I'm sor-" he places his lips on hers just as the last set of fireworks explodes in an array of colors.
Blue, green, orange, purple, red, yellow, pink; all the fireworks reflecting in the river. Linking their worlds. Together forever. Making this moment, bound to never be forgotten.
