She leaves the hospital room with a sunken heart. It's incurable. A single tear escapes her eye and she hurriedly wipes it away; she forces a smile onto her face as she sees the person she loves.
"So?" he asks with hope brimming in his voice, "How'd it go?"
"I'll be fine," she lies through her teeth, "It'll be over in a few weeks."
Incurable... out of everything... it had to be... this. She pulls him into a hug to hide her face. He can feel the warm water sink into his shirt, but decides to act like he can't. She probably wants to act like it won't affect her...
He holds her in his arms and rubs her back. He wants to tell her it'd get better, but without reasoning he can't.
He hugs her harder. They both know nothing will change the outcome. She breaks away and he holds her hand. They walk to the park across the street and sit on a bench.
"You and I both know you're lying... how long?" he looks into her eyes, "How much longer do you have to live?"
She swallows, "They estimated I'll be able to live outside of the hospital for half a year... I wanted... I really wanted to start a family with you... I wanted a baby Law... but now... I can't..."
"No... we can't," he holds her closer to his chest, "but... me too. I wanted to raise a miniature (Y/n)-ya."
She clings to him as she bursts into sobs, "I-I wanted so much! I get so little time with the one I love! I-it's so unfair!"
"Life's unfair, love," he whispers and rubs her back trying to sooth her, "It never has been... it never will be."
"Law. Let's make the most of the time we have," she tries to smile and he nods.
----------12 months later-------
The rain falls quietly and he just stares at the grave. Bepo, his white fluffy dog, lays down in the mud, mourning over his dual owner.
Laws hand moves to his face and Bepo maneuvers his head towards the movement. Bepo blinks as Law collapses to the ground.
"Life's unfair, (Y/n)-ya. Right after you died... they found a cure. Life will never change! It's always taunting me with what I can't have!" he hits the ground and tears stream in with the rain, "Why? Why? Why?! Why did you have to die?! Why our humans so weak that they succumb to diseases?! Why... why am I so affected... by losing you?"
Bepo pads over to Law and nudges the man with his nose. When he doesn't respond, he paws his jacket, smearing mud into the fabric. That doesn't work so he goes straight for it and licks Laws cheek.
Law looks at Bepo to be tackled and licked all over his face. Bepo, trying to cheer up his owner, puts off his own sadness and continues to lick Law until he's laughing.
He goes over to the grave and sits next to it. Law sits up and watches Bepo for a bit. He sighs and stands up, "Let's go, Bepo-ya."
Bepo jumps up and walks after Law, wagging his tail happily. He's right after all, (Y/n)-ya wouldn't want me to be sad. 'Let's make the most of time we have', right?~Incurable End~
