So I did a contest about two weeks ago and I had to write what "Fandom" meant to me. Sadly, the contest winners were chosen by amount of votes received, and I was never too keen on getting votes, so I didn't win. However, I only entered because I thought it would be fun to write, and I am quite proud of it, so I decided to post it in here instead of keeping that book (because I despise having too many books on here). So, here is what Fandom means to me. And also, tell me what you thought of this and if it was accurate, and what a Fandom means to you.

Fandom.

A word that can change lives.

The word "Fandom", as described by definition, is "The fans of a sport or famous person". But, in reality, a Fandom is so much more than that. A Fandom is a group of people that all have a common interest in something, and by having that interest, it brings them together. Through Fandoms, people are able to meet new friends, whether that is in real life or through the power of technology.

A Fandom is what someone goes to to be able to express their love for something or someone to others who feel the same way as them, and without Fandoms, people would never know how many people are out there that really are like them. Without Fandoms, people wouldn't know that they are never truly alone.

To an outsider, a "Fangirl" or a "Fanboy" is someone who is obsessed, someone who spends too much time devoted to something so... stupid. But to someone who knows how it feels, a "Fangirl" or a "Fanboy" is someone who has finally found someone that makes them happy, and, in some cases, can even gives someone a purpose in this thing called life. "Obsessed" is a word used by someone who can't properly describe how someone feels about something. But to someone who understands, a fangirl or fanboy is not one who obsesses over something, it's someone who has found something that makes them happy and helps them out through a situation.

Not only that, but someone who is in a Fandom is aware of how to make Fan Art, spends their time writing Fan Fictions, hopes and prays that they will dream about them the following night, has experienced the feeling of staying up all night just to watch videos of them, can make a reference to their fandom out of anything someone says, has created their own inside jokes dedicated to their fandom, knows the feeling they get when they discover someone else who likes the same thing, when they are able to laugh, cry, smile, blush, and hyperventilate all at once, and can find a special connection with that person or thing, whether they know the person or not.

A Fandom is a family. They bring people together and are able to find things that truly matter to them.

And what proves when someone is truly dedicated to a Fandom?

When they spend more time writing an essay on Fandoms than they do on doing Homework.
