What is a nerd?
Are you a nerd?
Am I a nerd?
There are a lot of questions about the true definition of a nerd, an whether or not someone is. I have taken a lot of thought into this lately, and I think I've come up with yet another conclusion.
We are at a point in time in online Pop Culture where being a fan of something such as Doctor Who, Harry Potter, the vlogbrothers, charlieissocoollike, and Sherlock dreams you as "nerdy", having that trait has become a necessarily cool thing. Wheras, on my optimistic field, the true nerd is one who is unaware of their own title. This trait is also widely shared with the "Hipsters", and what their definition is.
In my opinion, you can be a fan of TV Shows and certain music and some video games and some people without being a nerd.
Another trait that is very, very widely popular on the internet is being so called "socially awkward". This term is used a lot by people and then celebrated, in a way that they are proud to be socially awkward, or introverted. Really though, in a way, people who necessarily "celebrate" being socially awkward are more or less only becoming less socially introverted, because they are sharing and discussing this similarity with others, which causes their social skills to grow.
So I guess, to sum everything up someone who feels pride in being inteoverted, a nerd, and even hipster, is more or less faking it, they believe that they are but the true definition of one does not fit their standards, or they jut aren't one.
I guess his can sum up I the fact that I, myself, with all my Doctor Who and YouTube and Pokemon and Legend of Zelda and Sherlock and Nerd-fighter love, am not a nerd.
Discuss.
