Chapter 27

Zoe lay in bed and tried to get to sleep. She couldn't. She was already anxious and Alfie and Rowan still weren't back yet. Alfie had texted her ages ago to say they were leaving. Zoe's phone started ringing and she sighed in relief. "Alfie, where are you?" she asked frantically.

"This is Brighton General Hospital, is this Miss Zoe Sugg?" "Yeah... what happened?" "Your boyfriend, Alfie Deyes was in an accident, along with a woman who we have not yet identified," "Rowan..." "It could be... her I.D said Amelia Lane on it but she isn't in the system," "That's... that's Rowan..." "Miss Sugg, do you know her?" "She's my... she's my little sister," "Miss Sugg, can you come down to the hospital? We've called Mr Deyes' family but you may want to contact your own," "Okay, thank you," Zoe hung up. She felt numb but then she burst into tears. Alfie and Rowan had been in an accident... what if she lost them?

Zoe frantically ran to the room where the nurse had said her sister would be. She had refused to tell her where Alfie was because she wasn't family. But then she saw Poppy. "Poppy!" Zoe screamed. Poppy was crying slightly and ran up to Zoe; hugging her.

"Zoe, Alfie's okay. He's fine... he was driving and broke his arm but he barely even got a scratch... but he was... he was with another woman," Poppy explained sadly. She, like most people, had no idea that Rowan existed. At Poppy's words, Zoe started sobbing. "It's okay Zoe... I'm sure it doesn't mean anything..." Poppy tried.

Zoe shook her head. "The... she is... she's my... sister," Zoe sobbed. Poppy looked shocked.

"What? I didn't know you had a sister," Poppy asked. She was even paler now because she realised that Zoe's sister was much more injured than Alfie had been.

"She... doesn't want... anyone to know," Zoe choked out. "How is she?"

"I don't know, I didn't ask because I didn't know who she was,"

"Miss Sugg?"

"How's my sister? Is she... okay?" Zoe asked hesitantly.

"Her injuries were much more extensive than the driver's. Four broken ribs, a lot of internal bleeding as a result. And an extensive head injury," the doctor explained.

"But she's alive?" she asked hopefully.

"She's in a coma at the moment Miss Sugg and until she wakes up, I'm afraid we won't know the extent of the damage caused to her brain. There is also a chance that she'll never wake up due to brain damage," the doctor answered sorrowfully.

Zoe tried not to break down when she heard these words. "Can I see her?"

"You can. But I have to warn you, there are a lot of wires and machines around her..." he replied.
