Life Changing

Maya's P.O.V
I turn back around to my mom and Shawn and gasp for breath. He's knelt on the floor and holding a, oh my god. He's proposing to her? Oh my god.

"Katy, I love you and your daughter and want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?"

My mom's eyes go wide and she gasps. "Oh my god, Shawn!" She looks back at Topanga and Cory and they flash her sweet smiles. She looks at Riley and I and I force a smile. Riley smiles and gives a thumbs up. My mom looks at my face and for some reason, I mouth the words "Say yes".

She turns to Shawn and says, "Yes, I will marry you."

I feel lightheaded as I watch them both carry on with their life. They kiss and I turn around because of all the emotions I'm feeling. Riley smiles and claps loudly. I force a tight lipped smile at my mom.

Shawn walks to Cory and Topanga and says "Well, how'd I do?"

Topanga laughs and Cory says "You're getting married Shawn, and to a wonderful woman" he pats Shawn's shoulder and walks away. Topanga smiles.

Riley pulls me into her bedroom and we sit at the bay winndow. "So, your father figure is marrying your mom, meaning he'll practically be your dad."

I sigh and say "Riley, I just don't know what to feel. Should I be feeling all happy and excited, because I feel like such a fucking terrible person right now for feeling, like, I don't know." I look for words to describe what the hell I'm feeling.

Riley looks into my eyes and says "Come on Maya, what are you thinking?"

"I, I don't know. I seriously don't know." I throw my head into my hands and Riley wraps her arms around me.

"I'm here for you, like we promised." She softly says.

Goddamn it, how can someone be as good as Riley? She's too good for her own good.

Riley then says "Do you feel like your mom will forget about you? I felt that way when Auggie was gonna be born, I thought that I'd be, left out."

I sit up quickly and say "That's it, I feel like my mom and Shawn will be, so fucking good together and just won't need me anymore."

Riley shakes her head and says "How could anyone forget about you? Maya Hart?"

Suddenly we hear something from behind us. Lucas climbs into the bay window and suddenly looks scared when he sees us together. "Shit, I shouldn't have come." He mutters.

Riley tugs him in and says "Hi."

Lucas then touches my throat gently. Riley walks to her bedroom door and says "I'll, give you two some time to work out everything, okay?"

I nod and Lucas sits next to me. "Maya, I'm sorry for being an asshole. For everything I've done, I just-"

He shakes his head and says "Can we start over?"

I hold his hand and softly say "I suppose."

He cups his hands on my face and kisses me, slowly but assuringly. I kiss him back gently and pull away. "You belong with Riley."

He looks at me with confused eyes and says "Maya, I don't know."

I run my fingers through my soft blonde waves and say "You never know anything goddamn it!" I walk out of the bedroom furiously and see my mom and Shawn sitting together on the couch talking to Cory and Topanga.

I walk to Riley sitting at the counter eating cupcakes. "Riles I want Lucas out."

She stuffs the rest of a vanilla cupcake into her mouth and says through the mouthful "Wah, alweady?" I giggle and say "Yes Riley. Now swallow that food and stop talking, be a lady." She jokingly rolls her eyes and picks up a strawberry cupcake with white icing in a swirly design on top.

I watch Lucas walk out the front door without saying another word. I take a deep breath and eat a cupcake with Riley. I try to convince myself that Shawn and Katy together would be a perfect match, but for some reason I feel upset thinking about it.
